Generative artificial intelligence (AI) like ChatGPT, Claude, and other tools continue to evolve and take on more of a role in society. But how does gen-AI work and what does its role in society look like right now? Professor Michael Cassens from University of Montana will talk about this topic and how to stay informed in the fast changing landscape of genAI. Michael Cassens is a teacher, a computer scientist, a creative technologist, a gamer, and a game and mobile application developer. Michael is also the Director of Esports at the University of Montana with an emphasis on inclusion, diversity, and educational pathways for their players and team members.

In the four-part series, Ean Miles Kessler will help participants explore all the necessary elements of writing for the theater including; how to write realistic dialogue that leaps off the page, how to craft vibrant and exciting characters, how to infuse action and conflict into their work, and more! Workshops will include a variety of writing exercises/prompts aimed at spurring creativity, open discussion of craft and technique, and workshopping student material. Students will walk away with the beginnings of their own dramatic scenes, which will be shared and developed in class. Since these workshops build on each other, we ask that folks do their best to attend all sessions.

On August 26 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in Cooper Room B on Level Four of the library give your wardrobe a creative makeover! Join West Waye for an open and imaginative workshop where you’ll transform clothing or accessories into something completely new. Bring your own piece to reimagine, or choose from items provided at the workshop. Experiment with creative techniques, connect with others, and leave with a one of a kind piece of wearable art.

Celebrate a summer of reading with a party packed with prehistoric fun on August 20 from 11 AM to 1 PM in the Art Box on Level Two! This Humanities Montana place-based talk explores how Indigenous stories, history, and lived relationships with land shape conservation in real and practical ways. Drawing from her field-based storytelling and visual storytelling (photo & video) work with Iron Shield Creative, Lailani shares how Indigenous knowledge systems are not symbolic or stuck in the past, but living ways of understanding stewardship, responsibility, and care for the natural world. Through story and time on the land, Lailani invites participants to reflect on their own connection to place and what it truly means to care for the “wider community” (natural world) and future generations.
