Wildfires across the nation have been especially challenging this year. Long before the fires began hitting close to home and impacting our own state, our firefighters were already stepping up to support communities across the country.

FF Blake Meyers, Parker Vaculik, Vince Sobiech, and Isaac Anderson have been responding to fires in California, alongside additional MFD personnel serving on other assignments throughout the state.

Most recently, our Incident Management Team (IMT), along with additional personnel, was stood up to support statewide fire response efforts in Montana.

Stage II Fire Restrictions FAQ: Can I ride off road?

Under Stage II Fire Restrictions, operating motorized vehicles off designated roads and trails is prohibited. This restriction helps reduce the risk of sparks and accidental wildfire starts during periods of heightened fire danger.

Before you head out, make sure you know what activities are restricted and where restrictions apply.

Wondering if you can have a campfire? The answer is no.

🔥Within Missoula city limits, open fires—including campfires and wood-fueled fire pits—are prohibited year-round under Missoula Municipal Code Chapter 8.60.
🔥In Missoula County, during Stage II Restrictions, building, maintaining, attending, or using a fire or campfire is prohibited.

Fire Chief Lonnie Rash and Mayor Andrea Davis have announced a Resolution that Stage II Fire Restrictions are now in effect for the City of Missoula. These restrictions are in place to reduce wildfire risk and help protect our Missoula community.

When Stage II Fire Restrictions go into effect, we receive a lot of phone calls. One frequently asked question we receive is:
Can I operate a lawn mower? Yes—but only during the allowed hours.

Under Stage II Fire Restrictions, The following acts are prohibited from 1:00 pm to 1:00 am:
🌱Operating any internal combustion engine.
🔥Welding, or operating acetylene or other torch with an open flame.
💣Using an explosive.

Help us reduce the risk of human-caused wildfires by planning outdoor work during the morning hours and staying aware of current fire restrictions.
