On this day in 1981, openly gay student Bob Hoy ran for Raleigh's city council; while he only earned 3% of the vote it was just six years later that Joe Herzenberg became North Carolina's first openly gay elected official.

It can be scary to take a step out of your comfort zone, whether that is politics or getting an HIV test. 🌈🪶 Aannnnd we’re back! 🪶🌈

The 30th Annual Montana Two Spirit Gathering and 39th Annual International Two Spirit Gathering were an amazing success! 💜

Of course, a gathering like this doesn’t just happen. That success came from months of preparation and the hard work, long days, and many helping hands it took to bring our relatives together.

Once the last goodbyes were said and the work was finished, it was important for us to take a little time to rest, regroup, and recharge.

Rest is part of the work, too.

Now we’re back, incredibly grateful for everyone who helped make the Gathering possible and for every relative who joined us and helped fill those days with community, culture, laughter, learning, and memories.

Thank you for an unforgettable Gathering. It was good to be together again. 💜🪶🌈
