The Central Valley Incident Management Team members come from different departments across our region, but trainings like this ensure we can work together seamlessly when large, complex incidents arise.

Over 50 members of the Central Valley Incident Management Team gathered today at the Regional Fire Training Center in Modesto for the annual spring training to prepare for the wildfire season. Trainings like these allow seasoned members to refresh their skills while allowing new team members to develop in a controlled environment.

Today, members of the Modesto Fire Department were honored to stand alongside our community at Memorial Day ceremonies throughout our service area as we remembered the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.

From participating in memorial events with our law enforcement partners and local leaders, to honoring the fallen during the 21-gun salute, and assisting with the respectful folding and retirement of flags at Ceres Memorial Cemetery, today was a reminder of the deep gratitude we owe those who gave everything for our freedom.

We thank all who took time today to remember and honor our nation’s hero’s.

The Modesto Fire Department wishes you a happy and safe Memorial Day.

We are grateful today, and every day, to the over 1,000,000 men and women of our country who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

In preparation for Memorial Day weekend ceremonies, Modesto Fire personnel joined Westport Firefighters, members of Modesto Firefighters Local 1289, and the Ceres Police Department to assist the Ceres American Legion Post in placing more than 100 U.S. flags at Ceres Memorial Cemetery on Whitmore Avenue.

Crews from Battalion 3, Engine 15, Quint 18, and Engine 11 — along with off-duty personnel — are proud to support this tradition of honoring and remembering the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

The last couple of days have kept crews busy in the Oakdale Fire Protection District, where firefighters responded to and contained two separate vegetation fires with assistance from CAL FIRE, our MST partner resources, and agencies from neighboring counties.

5/20 – Firefighters responded to Wren Road, southeast of Oakdale, where they found 2–3 acres of grass and berry bushes burning. Crews stopped the forward progress of the fire within 30 minutes. A total of 4.5 acres burned.

5/21 – A 5–10 acre vegetation fire was reported near Woodward Reservoir, north of Oakdale. Firefighters battled a wind-driven fire that was caused by a saw being used to cut metal pipe. A total of 49.5 acres burned.

Both fires occurred during the hottest part of the day, serving as an important reminder that although it is only May, grasses and vegetation are already drying out and fire danger is increasing daily throughout rural communities.

As temperatures rise, please use extra caution when mowing dry grass, welding, operating equipment, or towing trailers. A single spark can quickly start a fast-moving fire.

The Modesto Fire Department is proud to provide fire and emergency response services to the Oakdale Fire Protection District and our other contract agencies across the region.

Two large piles of almond hulls have been burning on the 1300 block of Meikle Road near Hickman since yesterday afternoon. The piles will continue to burn for several days and will put up a considerable amount of smoke that will be visible for miles. Firefighters have determined there is minimal threat to nearby properties, but as a precaution there are employees monitoring the situation closely.
