Montvale Volunteer Fire Department Welcome to the Official page of The Montvale Volunteer Fire Department. We have been serving the Borough of Montvale since 1924.

It is the dedication of the men and women of the Montvale Fire Department along with the support of the governing body, that they have rendered this service to protect the community from fire and disasters. One of the few municipal bargains still available. The volunteer fire department is more than the sum of its parts. You can add up the fire house, the vehicles, uniforms, and life saving equipment; all of this represents a sizeable investment on the part of the residents of Montvale. But it is the volunteers, fellow residents who give of their time, energies, skill and expertise that afford the borough protection at all hours of the day and night in all kinds of weather. Without this spirit of community service there would be no fire department, and Montvale would be all the poorer.

This morning at approximately 5:15 a.m., the Montvale Fire Department was alerted to numerous fire alarm activations at multiple buildings throughout town. It was quickly established that these alarms were all related to sprinkler systems and water pressure. We were then notified that Veolia had been doing work on the water tank and pumps. This activated water flow alarms in 19 sprinklered buildings nearly simultaneously. After each building was initially triaged by PD or FD, the FD assisted with resetting the alarms. This is an extremely rare and unusual occurrence. Chief M10, Deputy M11, Captains M12 & M13, Lieutenants M14 & M15, Rescue Pumper M1 and Engines M2 and M3 responded to a total of 19 fire alarm activations. All units were back in service by 7:30 AM.

Earlier today, members of the Montvale Volunteer Fire Department were on hand for a park dedication in Secaucus. The honoree was Chief George H. Heflich Sr. who is an honorary member of our department.

Chief Heflich has not only dedicated 65+ years of service to Secaucus, but has served as an officer for the New Jersey State Firemen’s Association for 20+ years and has been an honorary member in Montvale since 2016. At 89 years old, Chief Heflich comes to Montvale every week to support the Montvale Fire Department in training, fundraisers, Christmas Eve prep and activities and any other ad hoc activities.

Please join us in congratulating Chief Heflich for his dedicated service.
