BHSN is closed on Juneteenth (6/19)
On this day in 1865, federal troops arrived in Galveston, TX to ensure all enslaved people be freed. After President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, states sporadically ceased practices of slavery, with June 19, 1865, marking the final emancipation of enslaved peoples. We have come to know this day as “Juneteenth.”
