If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to scan every book in the library collection, this is an incredibly accurate illustration of the end of year library inventory progression. But this junior librarian did get a whole stack of nonfiction inventoried today.

1. Focused and efficient.
2. Excited for the buzzer sound of a lost book to break up the monotony of one scan after another.
3. Distracted by the books you didn’t know were on the shelf and the focus is wearing down.
4.Finally the bottom shelf and so over it.
5. DONE with it all.

We had a very special guest reader in 2nd grade library today. She read us some silly stories and I got to tell this guy that I’ve known his grandma since I was about his age. I remember spending time after school browsing the shelves at Nellie’s Book Cellar as a kid when I would ride the school bus to my dad’s office in the same building. I love that she got to join us today as we wrap up 2nd grade library.

Our MCE Library 1st grade crew took to the halls today to make special May basket deliveries throughout the school. Always one of our favorite traditions.

📚📖Leaders are READERS! 📖📚

There was a new boss in the building today. “Mr. B”joined Mr. C as our MCE Elementary Principal of the Day after completing a BIG reading challenge. This 2nd grader knocked out an ENTIRE 40 book series this semester to beat the challenge he set with Mr. C…and he is already several books into the next series. He was a daily visitor in the library for weeks trading out books and working toward his goal.

He crushed his challenge and today became Mr. B, Principal for the Day. After morning announcements our principals stopped by the PROWL in the library to get fueled for a busy day of moderating the school spelling bee, checking on classrooms, talking with students, meeting with other district admin, taking care of teachers with an afternoon soda delivery and lots of other important principal work.

Spotted these 8th grade MCE Aggies in the hallway constructing their learning with cardboard and hot glue this morning. Thinking back to their days in 1st grade and realizing some things haven’t changed. Except now they get to run the hot glue gun themselves. That power in 1st grade was only issued to one little guy’s brave volunteer grandma who entered our construction chaos.

We had a sweet literary surprise in the library today. Some of our 1st, 2nd, 3rd and even 6th graders got to hear our special guest storyteller Gloria share her interpretation of Sweet Tooth by Margie Palatini. We shared some laughs, talked about the differences in storytelling and story read alouds, and learned about how storytellers develop their craft. Thanks to Gloria for spending some of her spring break time sharing her storytelling skills and answering lots of questions in our library!
