McDSP At McDSP we create advanced algorithms for pro audio plug-ins, game audio and iOS apps.

McDSP is an innovative Emmy award-winning Silicon Valley audio software and hardware company founded in 1998 by Colin McDowell. McDSP technology can be found in pro audio plug-ins for popular digital audio workstations including Pro Tools, Logic, Cubase, and Avid live sound systems. McDSP audio algorithms are also used by companies such as Audiokinetic, Bioware, and Microsoft, and in consumer products like the LouderLogic iOS audio player. In 2019 McDSP introduced the world's first programmable analog processor, the APB-16. The McDSP Analog Processing Box (APB) combines the flexibility of software plug-in control with the fidelity of premium analog processing. Options include compressors, mastering limiters, transient enhancement devices, multi-channel and multi-band applications.

McDSP will be exhibiting at IMSTA FESTA Toronto at York University on Saturday, October 17!

If you are in the Greater Toronto Area, we would love to see you. IMSTA FESTA is a full day of master classes, music technology demonstrations, networking, and skills development, featuring GRAMMY-winning producers and engineers Zaytoven, Major Seven, Preston "Prizzie" Reid, Riley Bell, Justin Gray, and more, as well as music industry leaders such as Simon Wilcox, Paul Sanderson, Martin Pilchner, Jeff Wright, and many more. FOH engineer, Kevin Madigan has worked with Santana for almost a decade in addition to working with other iconic artists like CSN&Y, Lana Del Rey, The Los Angeles Philharmonic, David Gilmour, The Smashing Pumpkins, Kendrick Lamar, Rihanna, Maroon 5, Usher, and The 1975. In an article from Fourier Audio, Madigan describes his use of their transform.engine along with some McDSP plug-ins in his set-up while on tour with Santana; "I love that I can add other options I want, like McDSP Futzbox and AE600, which do a really important vocal effect in 'Smooth.'”

One of the first compressors released for the APB, the C-18 has all standard compression controls included. On top of this, the C-18 includes an automatic mode for attack and release, and a slightly unconventional BITE (Bi-directional transient enhancement) control for altering compression response.
