The Hardy Dam in Newaygo County requires urgent attention to prevent catastrophic flooding of the Muskegon River and adjacent communities. As the owner, Consumers Energy plans to transfer ownership to a private equity firm for $1.00, rather than investing in necessary repairs. The earthen dam's structural integrity is at risk, particularly during intense rainfall events, which could lead to devastating consequences, including the inundation of Newaygo City, destruction of bridges on Maple Island Rd., US 31, and the Veterans Causeway in Muskegon, and environmental damage to Muskegon Lake, resulting in significant disruptions to fishing and recreational activities. Last night, many Muskegonites were shocked to hear Mr. Trump call our county out by name in his speech over nationwide TV.

Michigan is choking on wildfire smoke while climate denier Trump is focused on false voter fraud claims from the 2020 election.

The short and simple truth: The Muskegon City Clerk's office found a batch of incorrectly filled out voter registration applications in 2020, using their standard protocol. These registration applications were invalidated and did not result in anyone voting improperly. The issue of the improper applications was forwarded for investigation to the Michigan State Police and Attorney General Nessel, then sent to the FBI. Trump and his friends from the MAGA Muskegon County Republican Party are trying to frame this as a cover up of voter fraud. No, Mr. Trump and Chairman Tim Cross, it is proof that Michigan's elections system works as intended.

Trump just transformed an insignificant county in Michigan into a major focus in the midterms. It's more important than ever for us to support Democratic candidates, vote early, and be at the polls on Election Day to be sure that every voter is able to cast their ballot without fear of intimidation.
