Swimming pools close for inclement weather due to thunder and lightning, which poses a significant electrocution risk, and heavy rain, which reduces visibility to the point where lifeguards cannot perform their safety duties. Other factors can include strong winds which can create hazards and make it impossible to see the pool bottom, and low air or water temperatures, which can make the environment unsafe. Pool closures are a safety measure to protect patrons from these dangers.
