🇫🇷🎖️ Last Friday, France had the honor of awarding the Légion d’honneur, its highest distinction, to Second Lieutenant Murray Lirette, a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army Air Forces.

As a bombardier with the legendary 100th Bomb Group, he flew twelve combat missions over occupied Europe before being shot down over Belgium in May 1944. Severely wounded, he endured nearly a year as a prisoner of war at Stalag Luft III.

More than eighty years later, France remembers. This decoration is a tribute to his courage, sacrifice, and the enduring friendship between France and the United States.

🇫🇷🎖️ Vendredi dernier, la France a eu l’honneur de remettre la Légion d’honneur, sa plus haute distinction, au sous-lieutenant Murray Lirette, vétéran de la Seconde Guerre mondiale de l’U.S. Army Air Forces.

Bombardier au sein du légendaire 100th Bomb Group, il a accompli douze missions de combat au-dessus de l’Europe occupée avant d’être abattu au-dessus de la Belgique en mai 1944. Grièvement blessé, il a ensuite passé près d’un an en captivité au Stalag Luft III.

Plus de quatre-vingts ans après la Libération, la France n’oublie pas. Cette décoration rend hommage à son courage, à son sacrifice et à l’amitié indéfectible entre la France et les États-Unis.

À l’occasion d’une journée de formation au Louisiana Department of Education, le Consul général Rodolphe Sambou a rencontré les enseignants de cette nouvelle promotion, tandis que l’Attaché culturel Thibault Bladek leur a présenté l’action du Consulat ainsi que les différents dispositifs de soutien mis à leur disposition tout au long de leur séjour en Louisiane.

Cette année, 123 enseignants CODOFIL, venus de France et de toute la Francophonie, font vivre le français dans les écoles de Louisiane. Merci pour votre engagement en faveur de l’avenir du français en Louisiane ! 🇫🇷

During a training day at the Louisiana Department of Education, Consul General Rodolphe Sambou met with this year’s teachers, while Cultural Attaché Thibault Bladek presented the Consulate’s work and the various support programs available to them throughout their time in Louisiana.

Last night’s performance of Aina Alegre ‘s At Dawn 1 at the International Dance Festival New Orleans was a vibrant celebration of movement, music, and community.

Bringing together French and New Orleans artists, the performance beautifully wove together Mediterranean traditions and the city’s iconic Second Line, creating a moving dialogue between France and Louisiana through the universal language of dance.

Villa Albertine is proud to support the participation of Aina Alegre, co-director of the National Choreographic Center of Grenoble, as a laureate of Villa Albertine’s FUSED (French-US Dance Exchange) program.

A heartfelt thank you to IDFNOLA, the Contemporary Arts Center New Orleans, and all the artists who made this unforgettable evening possible. Here’s to many more inspiring cultural exchanges! 🇫🇷🇺🇸

La représentation d’At Dawn 1 d’Aina Alegre lors de l’International Dance Festival New Orleans nous a offert un moment d’une grande intensité, où mouvement, musique et partage se sont mêlés avec une énergie remarquable.

En réunissant des artistes français et louisianais, cette création a fait dialoguer les traditions méditerranéennes et l’emblématique Second Line de La Nouvelle-Orléans, illustrant avec force combien la culture continue de rapprocher la France et la Louisiane.
