Easterseals has been helping individuals with disabilities and special needs, and their families, live better lives for nearly 100 years. From child development centers to physical rehabilitation and job training for people with disabilities, Easterseals offers a variety of services to help people with disabilities address life's challenges and achieve personal goals. Easterseals offers help, hope

and answers to more than a million children and adults living with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other disabilities or special needs and their families each year. Services and support are provided through a network of more than 550 sites in the U.S. Each center provides exceptional services that are individualized, innovative, family-focused and tailored to meet specific needs of the particular community served. We change the way the world defines and views disability by making profound, positive differences in people's lives every day, helping our clients build the skills and access the resources they need to live, learn, work and play. This week, Easterseals Louisiana acknowledges Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Ida. ⚜️

21 years ago, Hurricane Katrina made landfall, and 5 years ago, Hurricane Ida forever changed the lives of so many across Louisiana and the Gulf Coast. These catastrophes tore through our community, but our spirit remained alive. 💛

🔶 To our colleagues, families, and neighbors who walked through the storm and its aftermath, you are a true testament to resilience and hope.

At Easterseals Louisiana, our mission has always been to offer excellent support and overcome challenges together as a community. Today, we honor that spirit and remember the power of coming together in the face of hardship.

August is Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Awareness Month.

SMA is a progressive condition that affects motor nerve cells in the spinal cord, impacting muscle strength and everyday activities such as breathing, eating, crawling, and walking.

While SMA can affect physical abilities, it does not affect a person’s ability to think, learn, or build meaningful relationships. Awareness helps create greater understanding, accessibility, and support for individuals and families living with SMA.

This month, Easterseals Louisiana recognizes the SMA community and the importance of building a more supportive and accessible world.
