On 4 September 2026, the GA adopted by consensus, the ASEAN-sponsored resolution commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC).

Fifty years on, the TAC remains a cornerstone of regional peace, stability and cooperation — anchored in mutual respect, peaceful settlement of disputes, non-interference and the renunciation of the threat or use of force.

H.E. Dato’ Nadzirah Osman, PR 🇲🇾 paid a courtesy call on H.E. Dr. Khalilur Rahman, President-elect of the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly.

The warm exchange focused on preparations for the upcoming High-Level Week of and the priorities of the incoming Presidency. Malaysia reaffirmed its support for a strong and effective General Assembly and looked forward to working closely with the PGA-elect in advancing the work of the UN during the 81st Session.

Malaysia's 69th National Day Reception in New York 🇲🇾

The Permanent Mission of Malaysia to the United Nations hosted a reception in New York to commemorate Malaysia's 69th National Day. We were honoured to welcome Ambassadors, Consuls General, members of the UN Secretariat and friends of Malaysia who joined us in celebration. Guests were treated to Malaysia's national flavours – nasi lemak, satay, roti canai, teh tarik and traditional kuih-muih – accompanied by a spirited kompang performance that brought a touch of home to New York. Thank you to all who celebrated with us. Merdeka! Merdeka! Merdeka!

Malaysia 🇲🇾 participated in the International Meeting on Victim Assistance & Environmental Remediation. VA/EM are essential responses to harm already inflicted & a stark reminder tht no response mechanism could ever fully remedy the catastrophic consequences of another detonation.

Malaysia 🇲🇾 has consistently maintained that the only absolute guarantee against the use or threat of use of is their total elimination. Nuclear must therefore remain our ultimate objective.

On 1 September 2026, H.E Dato’ Nadzirah Osman, the PR of 🇲🇾, received a courtesy call from H.E Mr. Cherdchai Chaivaivid, the PR of 🇹🇭, and H.E Dr. Vilawan Mangklatanakul, Thailand’s candidate for re-election to the International Law Commission (ILC).

The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the ILC's important role in the progressive development and codification of international law, including contemporary issues of particular relevance to developing countries and the ASEAN region.

🇲🇾 and 🇹🇭share a long tradition of close cooperation in multilateral fora, and this engagement reaffirmed our commitment to continue working together to advance ASEAN’s collective interests and strengthen the international rule of law.

On 25 August 2026, H.E. Dato’ Nadzirah Osman paid a courtesy call on H.E. Ms. Alya Ahmed Saif Al-Thani, Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations.

Both sides exchanged views on multilateral issues of common interest and reaffirmed their readiness to deepen collaboration in support of a stronger United Nations and the wider international community.

On 24 August 2026, H.E. Dato’ Nadzirah Osman, the Permanent Representative of Malaysia to the United Nations in New York, met with the Permanent Observer of the OIC to the United Nations.

Both sides reaffirmed the longstanding cooperation between Malaysia and the OIC, while exchanging views on ways to further strengthen engagement and collaboration in New York.

The warm exchange covered a range of issues shaping the UN agenda, including the UN80 Initiative, the selection of the next UN Secretary-General, and preparations for the High-Level Week of UNGA81.

Malaysia looks forward to maintaining close engagement with Canada and working together in support of effective multilateralism and a strong United Nations. 🇲🇾🤝🇨🇦

H.E. Dato’ Nadzirah Osman, PR 🇲🇾 paid a courtesy call on H.E. Ambassador Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed, PR 🇲🇻 on 18 August 2026.

Both sides touched on key issues on the UN agenda, including the UN80 Initiative and the selection of the next UN Secretary-General.

With Malaysia and the Maldives set to serve together on ECOSOC beginning in 2027, both sides also looked forward to closer cooperation in advancing shared priorities on sustainable development and effective multilateralism.
