Maysles Education

Maysles Education Maysles Education is the award-winning production and learning hub of the Maysles Documentary Center, a Harlem-based non-profit organization.

Maysles Education offers comprehensive, year-round documentary educational programming for people of all ages throughout the Harlem, Northern Manhattan and South Bronx communities. This includes on-site filmmaking programs for adults and young people, as well as school-based partnerships where participants learn to create documentaries on issues that are important to them and their communities. We

have partnered with a range of high school schools throughout the city, and currently host six education programs at our documentary center in Harlem including a comprehensive producing course and editing classes for adults, our Teen Producers Academy for young people ages 14-18, our Junior Filmmakers workshop for youth ages 10 to 13, and a film club for ages 7 to 11. All programs are free or low-cost, with scholarships available for those with a fee.

Maysles Documentary Center invites you to share your distinct perspective in our third youth-run film showcase. You are the future faces of this country, and we want to bring light to your stories of underrepresented communities through documentary filmmaking. This includes topics such as education, racism, injustice, COVID-19, and self-discovery.

The films must be documentaries only, limited to 15 minutes maximum, and all filmmakers must be between the ages of 14 to 24. Submission deadline is January 15th, 2021.
