As Sail 250 in the United States is coming to an end, we took the opportunity to host a final reception on board HMS Gladan during Sail Boston.

Boston is a city with both historic and modern ties to Sweden. From welcoming Swedish immigrants in the late 19th century to fostering strong partnerships in academia, and business, the city has long maintained a close relationship with Sweden. Boston also officially honors Sweden through Sweden-America Day on June 6, Sweden’s National Day.

These strong connections were reflected in the many Swedes and friends of Sweden who honored us with their presence at the reception. We were especially happy to welcome representatives from the City of Boston, Sail Boston, and The Newbury Boston (which hosted and highlighted Sweden and HMS Gladan during Sail Boston, if you find yourself in Boston, don’t miss their Tre Kronor cocktail, consider this your sign! 🍸), as well as captains and crew members from fellow participating tall ships who, throughout the sail, have become close friends of Sweden.

We feel honored to have played a small part in HMS Gladan’s journey in the United States. We extend our sincere thanks to the crew of HMS Falken (who sailed on board HMS Gladan during the northeastern leg of the sail) and to Anders Åkermark, Swedish Naval and Assistant Defense Attaché to the United States, Canada, and Mexico, for making this evening possible.

Happy Anniversary to the United States, and fair winds and following seas to HMS Gladan on her upcoming voyage across the Atlantic.

Last weekend, we had the honor of hosting a reception aboard HMS Gladan during Sail4th 250 in New York City. 🇸🇪⚓🇺🇸

Gladan, one of two sail training ships operated by the Swedish Navy, has been preparing future naval officers since 1947. Together with her sister ship, Falken, she provides cadets with invaluable hands-on experience in seamanship, navigation, leadership, and international cooperation through voyages around the world.

Guests were welcomed aboard for an evening celebrating the 250 anniversary and the ties between Sweden and the United States, featuring remarks by Anders Åkermark (Swedish Naval and Assistant Defense Attaché to the U.S., Canada and Mexico), Erik Ullenhag (Consul General of Sweden in New York), Johan Norlén (Chief of Royal Swedish Navy), Peter Jeppsson (Commanding Officer HMS Falken), and Doug Perry (Commander US Second Fleet and Commander Allied Joint Force Commander Norfolk (NATO)).

The evening also featured performances by the Royal Swedish Navy Band, including the Swedish and U.S. national anthems, followed by a reception overlooking New York Harbor.

A sincere thank you to everyone who joined us for this memorable evening and helped celebrate Sweden’s proud marine traditions and the strong partnership between Sweden and the United States. 🇸🇪🇺🇸

In connection with Sail250 New York over the Independence Day weekend, Consul General, Erik Ullenhag, had the pleasure of meeting with New York City Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani (), New York Governor Kathy Hochul (Governor Kathy Hochul), and New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill (Mikie Sherrill).

We look forward to building on these strong partnerships and hope everyone had a wonderful Independence Day weekend! 🇺🇸🇸🇪
