We champion a masterwork of landscape architecture, conceived by Frederick Law Olmsted Sr. The centerpiece of the first county park system in America located in the renaissance city of Newark, Essex County Branch Brook Park now enjoys new life. Together with a community of friends, we restored the park’s historic design and are refreshing it for today's lively use. We are proud to work in tandem with Essex County and the Department of Parks Recreation and Cultural Affairs in stewardship to Essex County Branch Brook Park.

🍂🌿 When Autumn Falls

Today, our volunteers met the season where it landed—across lawns, paths, gardens, and gathering spaces throughout Essex County Branch Brook Park.

With rakes, bags, and plenty of determination, they helped us manage the beautiful abundance of fall leaves and keep the park clean, welcoming, and ready for everyone who comes to enjoy it.

Autumn gives freely. Stewardship is how we answer—with care, with consistency, and with gratitude.

🍂🌿 Autumn, in Full Color

Fall has found its palette in Essex County Branch Brook Park.

Trees turn gold, amber, and crimson while callicarpa gathers clusters of lavender berries and sparkleberry glows with brilliant red fruit—small bursts of color woven through the changing landscape.

This is the season of contrast and quiet abundance, when every path seems to offer a new shade, a new texture, a new reason to look a little closer.

Come walk beneath it. Autumn is putting on a beautiful show. 🍁

🌿🌸 A Season of Skill and Stewardship

As the season winds down, we are especially grateful for the Rutgers Master Gardeners of Essex County and the extraordinary care they have given Essex County Branch Brook Park.

From tending the formal gardens to helping prune our cherry blossom collection with careful, selective cuts that support tree health, structure, and future flowering, they brought patience, knowledge, and decades of experience to every task.

We deeply appreciate the time, expertise, and heart they shared with us throughout the year. The park is better because of it—and we look forward to continuing this wonderful partnership in 2027. 💚

🌿🍂 Reimagining an Entrance

While volunteers were caring for the Southern and Middle Divisions today, 40 students from NJIT’s Albert Dorman Honors College were transforming the Tiffany Boulevard entrance in the Extension Division.

With an investment of both time and resources, the students helped create new gardens in a gateway that had long been overlooked.

Neighbors stopped throughout the day to share their appreciation—a powerful reminder that when we care for a place, community feels it.

For NJIT students, whose education is grounded in innovation, problem-solving, and improving the world around them, today’s classroom was the landscape itself. We are deeply grateful for their partnership in helping this entrance feel seen again. 💚

🍂🌿 The Work of Autumn

As the gardens of Essex County Branch Brook Park settle into fall, there is still important work to be done—cutting back, clearing, tending, and preparing the landscape for winter.

A warm thank you to the students from Seton Hall University who joined Branch Brook Park Alliance today and brought their time, energy, and spirit of service to that work.

Fall reminds us that care today prepares the way for renewal tomorrow. We are grateful to see Seton Hall’s tradition of service take root in the park. 💚

🍂🌳 Planting for Generations

Beneath a canopy beginning to turn gold, new roots went into the ground today in the Extension Division of Essex County Branch Brook Park.

A tremendous thank you to the team from J.M. Huber Corporation, who joined Branch Brook Park Alliance alongside the Student Conservation Association to plant maples, pin oaks, dogwoods, serviceberries, and Yoshino cherry trees beyond the Cherry Blossom Welcome Center and around the park’s three diamond 💎 baseball diamonds.

Fall is a season of transition, but also of preparation. While leaves descend, new trees take their place—quietly establishing themselves for the seasons and generations ahead.

For a company with a long tradition of thinking about people, place, and the future, there was something especially fitting about spending the day putting new life into the ground.

We are grateful to J.M. Huber and SCA for helping us turn an autumn day into a promise of what will grow next. 💚

🏛️🌿 Preserving More Than a Landscape

Our stewardship of Essex County Branch Brook Park reaches beyond gardens, trees, and open space. It also means caring for the historic structures that give this landscape its character and tell its story.

Removing graffiti from the extension division near Tiffany Blvd. may seem like a small act, but it is part of something larger: protecting the integrity of the park, honoring its history, and ensuring our park is treated with the respect it deserves.

Preservation is ongoing. It asks us to notice, respond, restore, and return again.

The work continues—and so does our commitment to caring for every part of this historic park. 💚

🍂🐦 Where Curiosity Takes Flight

There is something magical about autumn in Essex County Branch Brook Park—the canopy changing color, the air sharpening, and young eyes learning to notice what has been there all along.

During the Bird Watching Club, inquisitive young naturalists spotted wood ducks, red-tailed hawks, cormorants, and more, turning a walk through the park into a morning of discovery.

At the heart of it all is a wonderful volunteer facilitator, Mikki Fuller, whose knowledge, patience, and enthusiasm inspire young people to look closer, ask questions, and see the park as a world alive with possibility. We are deeply grateful for her leadership.

This special program is offered in partnership with Essex County 4-H and Rutgers Cooperative Extension—helping cultivate an appreciation for birds and a lifelong curiosity about the natural world. 🌿✨

In a season of migration and change, perhaps the greatest thing taking flight is wonder itself.

🍂🌿 Service for the Season

A warm thank you to the students from Seton Hall University for joining Branch Brook Park Alliance in the gardens of Essex County Branch Brook Park.

Fall asks something different of a garden. It is a season of tending, clearing, preparing, and caring for what will return. The students brought that same spirit of service to the park—giving their time now so the landscape can rest, renew, and flourish again.

Seton Hall’s commitment to service and community was felt in every task they took on today. We are grateful for their energy, generosity, and willingness to help care for a place shared by so many. 💚
