In observance of Labor Day, Monday, September 7 city offices including the transfer station, will be closed.

For city refuse and yard waste collection, including street pick-ups, please have your carts out at 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 8, to avoid being missed.

Pickup schedule will be adjusted for the following holidays: New Years Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, President's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving and the day after, and Christmas.

How to dispose of tree branches

Residents with city garbage collection can haul tree limbs and branches to the transfer station at no cost. Tree limbs and debris must be free of trash and decorations. All loads must be properly covered.

Residents with city garbage collection may call to have branches and limbs picked up. Call 535-6740 to arrange for pickup.

Tree branches must be separated from vines and stacked in one direction, placed in the alley or street without blocking anything or causing a safety hazard.

Limbs must be less than 10’ long and less than 10” in diameter. Stumps, larger trunks and limb parts must be less than 18” in diameter, less than 3’ in length and no dirt balls.

City ordinance § 95.04 DUTY TO REMOVE WEEDS states it is the owner's responsibility to remove weeds from city streets and alleys.

The existence of weeds or offensive vegetation in violation of this section constitutes a public nuisance.
(A) Developed parcel. It shall be the duty of every owner (occupant) of a developed parcel to cut, destroy or remove, or cause to be cut, destroyed or removed, all weeds in excess of 12 inches in height growing thereon and upon ½ of any road, street or alley abutting this property.
(B) Undeveloped parcel. It shall be the duty of every owner (occupant) of an undeveloped parcel to cut, destroy or remove, or cause to be cut, destroyed or removed, all weeds in excess of 12 inches in height growing thereon and upon ½ of any road, street or alley abutting this property within 150 feet of any developed parcel.
(C) Traffic hazards; clear vision zones. All weeds and offensive vegetation in developed and undeveloped areas shall also comply with and be subject to all requirements imposed under § 91.05 of this code.

Due to the ongoing power outage affecting parts of North Platte, Municipal Light & Water is asking all residents to conserve electricity whenever possible until 8:00 p.m. today.
Please set your thermostat 2–3 degrees higher than your normal setting, turn off unnecessary lights and appliances, delay the use of large electrical devices, and reduce overall power consumption to help stabilize the electrical grid while crews work to restore service.

The city of North Platte will pick up refrigerators and freezers but they must be completely empty and doors removed or disabled for safety. There is a fee for all appliance pick ups.

Independence Day Garbage Service & Transfer Station Hours

Due to the Independence Day Holiday on Saturday, July 4th, we will observe the holiday on Friday, July 3rd, there will be no refuse collection service on that day.

Please have your carts in place two days prior to your normal pick-up day, in order to avoid being missed.

All garbage must be bagged and placed in the city issued containers and the lids must be closed. No bags or trash on the ground.

The Public Service department will be closed on Friday, July 3, 2026.

The Transfer Station will be open July 3rd, and closed on Saturday, July 4th. Regular hours will resume July 6th, from 7 am-4 pm.

Attention: ADDED LOCATION
Residents now have a more convenient option for recycling with the addition of a new recycling drop-off site located in the north parking lot of the Public Service Building at 1402 N. Jeffers Street.

The new location was established to better serve residents on the north side of North Platte by providing easier access to recycling services while maintaining the same accepted materials and recycling procedures currently available at existing sites.
Each recycling bin is equipped with eight compartments designated for:
• Tin cans
• Aluminum cans
• Mixed paper
• Newspapers and magazines
• Plastic #1- #7
In addition, a large cardboard receptacle is available at the site for corrugated cardboard recycling.
The materials accepted at the new location are identical to those accepted at other drop-off recycling sites throughout the community. Residents seeking additional information about recyclable materials can visit www.keepnorthplattebeautiful.org/recycling. A QR code printed on each recycling bin provides direct access to the website, making it easy for users to review recycling guidelines while on-site.
The new drop-off site reflects an ongoing commitment to making recycling more accessible and convenient for North Platte residents while helping keep valuable materials out of local landfills.
