Pump testing has begun here for the summer. We complete our annual testing to track pump efficiency, maintenance issues and to make sure our people have confidence in our equipment. If you see us spraying water into a lake or gravel pit, come get a picture.

We love it when our community leaders come by. We hosted Harmony Tomaszewski yesterday and answered some questions on our department, our service area and the fire service in Alaska. It's appreciated and important to discuss our operations with the community whenever given the chance. Thank you Harmony Tomaszewski for your time. Come back anytime, the coffee is always on.

The crews gave some polish and love to Tender 32 this week in preparation for the Truck Show this weekend. It's important to say that we will NEVER take a rig out of service to prepare for a parade or a show. If we need it, we will use it. Fire trucks go to fires! Sure is pretty though.

Many of our members finished the last requirement (Field Day) to become a Wildland Firefighter. They hold a national certification that allows them to work wildland fires across our nation. We hope they never need us but if they do, we are ready. Thank you Alaska DNR - Division of Forestry & Fire Protection - DFFP for your time.

Hose testing doesn't have to suck. Crank the music, grab some gloves, light a stogie and go to work. By the time we are completed we will have tested aver 7 miles of hose.

We said ADIOS to Firefighter Finn Wilson last week. He is making the leap to attend a higher level of medical training (dare I say the P word). He was a fun addition to our team and thank him for every minute he gave our community. Good luck Finn. (mike drop)

We said a heartfelt farewell to Captain Wright last week. His newest adventure will move him into DOD Fire where he will learn the newest techniques on automatic fire alarm responses, appraisal systems, computer based trainings and the joy of electronic timecards and all things procedural in nature with the government. In all seriousness, he has been an amazing addition to our team, the community and the Interior fire service. We are excited to watch his career and where it goes.
