Make Voters The Donors

Make Voters The Donors Politicians serve the high-dollar donors who fund their campaigns, and ignore us, the voters. The solution: make the VOTERS the donors who really count.

Here’s to American icon Dolly Parton — a one-of-a-kind example of generosity, community, and using your voice to make a difference.

Just like Dolly, government by the people will never go out of style.

$378 million has been spent on Pennsylvania political campaigns since last year. In fact, just four wealthy individuals have poured in over $25 million alone.

What happens to our communities, our representation, and our government when elected officials rely on a few elite donors to get elected? At Make Voters the Donors, we want to change that.

At Make Voters the Donors, we believe in a simple American ideal: government by the people.

Voter Dollars offers a different approach to funding elections — one that puts political giving power directly into the hands of voters.

"I call it legal bribery."

That's Sal Albanese — a former NYC councilman now with Make Voters the Donors — on why Council Speaker Julie Menin just abandoned e-bike registration, even as crashes are up 30%+ this year.

The reason isn't a mystery: PACs funded by Uber and DoorDash poured ~$170,000 into her reelection. As Sal put it: "Legally, they're probably not talking, but it's a wink and a nod."

This is why we're fighting for Voter Dollars — an initiative that gives money directly to voters to support candidates. So, the people decide, not corporate PACs, who gets elected to represent us. Make voters the donors, and politicians answer to us again.

Worth a read from Vox: a closer look at how campaign money shapes elections — from who can afford to run to who gets taken seriously early in a race.

The midterms are flooded with cash, but donors don’t always get what they want. A political scientist explains where the money matters most.

The idea is as old as our democracy: power belongs with the people. The question is how we ensure our political system reflects it.

Wisconsin voters cast their primary ballots yesterday — but big money had been shaping some of the state’s biggest races long before the polls opened.

❗ Nearly $3.6 million from the Republican Governors Association on ads in the Democratic primary for governor, targeting Francesca Hong.

❗ Millions moving through a donor network supporting Rebecca Cooke in WI-03, with some of that financial backing not fully visible to voters until late in the race.

❗And in WI-07, $1 million from U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy’s former congressional campaign account, transferred to a super PAC supporting his son-in-law, Michael Alfonso, who went on to win the Republican primary.

Different candidates. Different parties. Different kinds of political money. Same system.

Long before we cast our ballots, money helps determine who can compete, who gets heard and which messages voters see again and again.

Voter Dollars offers a different way: give voters the money to give, so candidates answer to the people they want to represent.

Join us, and together we can make voters the donors and restore government by the people.
