American democracy rests on a simple ideal: every citizen should have an equal say in our government, regardless of how much money they have.

But when candidates and elected officials depend on big money, that promise gets distorted. Wealthy donors gain greater access and influence, while Americans who can’t afford to donate too often struggle to be heard.

Voter Dollars could give people a way to fund candidates they believe in—without using money they need for rent, groceries, or healthcare.

By giving every eligible voter an equal amount of public campaign funding to direct to participating candidates, Voter Dollars could make everyday Americans a powerful source of campaign support. Candidates would have a reason to reach more people, and more people would have a meaningful role in funding the campaigns of those who seek to represent them.

Our voices should matter because we’re voters. Our bank balances shouldn’t determine how much.
