DATA CENTER UPDATE

The Marion County Board of County Commissioners has officially approved a temporary 12-month moratorium on commercial data centers.

• Applies to: Large commercial facilities (50MW+ peak load) like AI hubs and crypto mining.
• Exemptions: Standard IT for local businesses, schools, and hospitals.

Under Florida’s Senate Bill 484, local zoning authority stays in our hands—and this pause ensures we stay ahead of growth.

At 70 pounds, he’s a big boy with a people problem: he likes them. A lot. He’d much rather be hanging with a human crew than attending the canine social scene. Take this guy home and you’ll always have a popular sidekick.

Some cats spend their lives chasing the next adventure. At 13 years old, Jordan has acquired a bit of wisdom and knows the finer things: a quiet place, a soft spot to rest his giant paws and someone nearby who appreciates good company. He’s ready for the relaxed life he deserves.

Some girls want the VIP treatment. This one is perfectly happy with just a baby pool and a front-row seat to the action. She’ll settle down with her toes in the water and then spend the afternoon looking like she has absolutely nowhere else to be.

🇺🇸 We Will Never Forget.

Thank you to everyone who joined us this morning for the September 11 Remembrance Ceremony at the Ocala-Marion County Veterans Memorial Park as we observed 25 years and honored the lives lost on 9/11/2001.

This morning's ceremony was attended by members of Marion County Fire Rescue, the Marion County Sheriff's Office, the Ocala Police Department, Ocala Fire Rescue, the Marion County Memorial Honor Guard, the Marion County Commission, the Ocala City Council, Florida State Senator Stan McClain, Florida Representative Ryan Chamberlin, several other local organizations, and of course, you, our Marion County residents.

Together, we remembered those who made the ultimate sacrifice, recognized the courage of our first responders and military heroes, and reflected on the strength of our community.

25 years later, we will never forget. 🇺🇸

At 70 pounds, this handsome chunk brings plenty of personality, knows some commands and has no objection to getting dressed up like his human twin. Give him a nice outfit, a date-night reservation and a little attention, and he’s ready to make an entrance.

Double the whiskers, double the fun. Anko and Tillie are an affectionate, engaging sister act with great spirits and enough kitten energy to turn an ordinary day into something much more entertaining.

Marion County Labor Day Holiday Closure

In observance of Labor Day, Marion County Board of County Commissioners offices and departments will be closed Monday, September 7, 2026.

Regular county operations will resume on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.

💛 A place to remember. A reminder that no family faces childhood cancer alone.

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and this month, the childhood cancer memorial in front of Headquarters-Ocala Public Library is surrounded by yellow pinwheels in honor of children and families affected by cancer.

About 15,500 children in the United States are diagnosed with cancer each year. Behind every number is a child, a family and a story that matters.

Thanks to the generosity of a private donor, this memorial gives our community a meaningful place to pause, remember and reflect. It honors children affected by childhood cancer and recognizes the parents, siblings, caregivers, health care professionals and loved ones who surround them with strength, compassion and hope.

Yellow pinwheels have been added to the display as well as entries to county offices to serve as a bright reminder of the children we remember and the families we support.

This Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, we invite our community to take a moment to reflect on the memorial, remember those affected by childhood cancer and show families facing this difficult journey that their community stands with them. 💛

Together, we remember. Together, we support. Together, we hope.

A quarter century later, our promise remains unbroken. 🇺🇸

Next week, our community will gather to honor the twenty-fifth anniversary of September 11. Together, we will remember the lives lost, pay tribute to the extraordinary courage of our first responders, and recognize the enduring sacrifices of our military heroes in solemn reflection and unity.

The observance takes place Friday, September 11, beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Ocala-Marion County Veterans Memorial Park.

This gathering is completely free and open to all residents, families, and local organizations. Join us next week as we stand united and reaffirm that we will never forget.
