The Sarpy County property valuation protesting period is open June 1 through June 30.

The county assessor has sent property owners who owned property as of May 20, 2026, a Notice of Valuation Change if their assessed value increased or decreased from tax year 2025 to 2026.

If you are not satisfied with your property's assessed valuation and choose to file a protest, you must complete Protest Form 422 and file it with the Sarpy County Clerk’s Office.

The forms are due June 30 in person by 4:45 p.m. or if filing online by 11:59 p.m. Forms submitted by mail must be postmarked no later than June 30. (Keep in mind that under updated guidance, the U.S. Postal Service cannot guarantee that the date a piece of mail is dropped in a box or given to a carrier will be the date reflected on the postmark.)

The Sarpy County Board of Equalization bases its final valuation decision on data from the County Assessor's office, data presented by each protester and the recommendation of an independent appraisal company.

For more details about the protest process and to access Form 422, please visit the Board of Equalization's webpage: https://www.sarpy.gov/770/Form-422---Property-Valuation-Protest

This weekend, we pause to mourn and honor our fallen service men and women. We share our deep gratitude for those who paid the ultimate sacrifice to make our freedoms possible.

A Memorial Day Message from Sarpy County Board Chair Don Kelly:

Memorial Day was first observed in 1868 as a way to remember those who died in the Civil War. As part of that first national commemoration, thousands of participants helped decorate the graves of soldiers buried at Arlington National Cemetery. That patriotic act sparked similar acts of kindness across the country.

Now, more than 150 years later, Memorial Day is a day to reflect on the sacrifices of America’s military heroes and those who gave their lives for our nation. May we carry their spirit of selflessness and service throughout our daily lives and our communities.

Sarpy County offices will be closed on Monday, May 25, to recognize Memorial Day. All public safety services will continue to operate.

Crews will be performing parking lot maintenance on the east side of the county’s main campus for the next several weeks. They will work in areas that serve the Administration entrance incrementally to limit any inconvenience.

Large areas of the lot will be blocked off for roughly 1-3 work days at a time, so the surface area can be fully seal-coated, crack-sealed and restriped. The first of these closures is expected to occur this week, and is weather dependent.

Please navigate to open parking areas and entrances.

Work is expected to last through mid-June. Thank you for your patience and flexibility.

A big congratulations to Sarpy County Teen Court! The Omaha Bar Association selected Sarpy County Teen Court as its 2026 Public Service Award winner.

Sarpy Teen Court started in 1995 as a way for youth to help decide the consequences for youth facing offenses like shoplifting, criminal mischief and more. A form of diversion, the program is for actual, first-time juvenile status or law violators.

The prosecuting and defense attorneys, as well as the jury, are also teenagers.

Teen Coordinator Leonard Matthias, pictured, said the program been a great pathway for teens to become law students.

The award was one of several handed out as part of Omaha Law Day 2026. The public service award goes to those who have enhanced the public’s knowledge of the law or legal system, among other criteria.

Sarpy County recognizes the scope and the challenge of addressing mental health concerns in our community, and we’re committed to being part of the solution.

A new crisis center in our community offers people experiencing a mental health crisis a voluntary place to turn for safety, stability and support.

We’re proud to support this innovative and needed service with our partners at Heartland Family Service and Region 6 Behavioral Healthcare. A ribbon-cutting last week at the HFS campus in Papillion marked this exciting achievement.

We can’t wait to see the good work they’ll continue to do in our community when stabilization services launch in the coming weeks. Learn more online: https://www.heartlandfamilyservice.org/services/crisis-center/

A special shoutout to the Sherwood Foundation and Lozier Foundation for their generous support.
