🎉 Save the date, neighbors! The Washington Square Block Party is back!

📅 Saturday, October 24 · 3 to 7 PM
📍 Belvidere Street, between North Hudson and Palm Terrace

It's the afternoon our whole neighborhood looks forward to all year: great food, live music, games, and fun for the whole family.

🍔 WSNA volunteers will be on the grill with burgers and hot dogs, and the rest is potluck. Sign up to bring a dish or take a half-hour grill shift: https://bit.ly/3UeavEO

🍰 NEW this year: a Family Dessert Recipe Contest! The winner takes home a $100 gift card, so start practicing that favorite family recipe now.

🎟️ Our annual raffle is back too, and it's one of our biggest neighborhood fundraisers. Want to donate a raffle item or sponsor part of the party (popcorn, bounce house, face painting, and more)? Follow the link for how to contact.

This party happens because of neighbors like you. See you on Belvidere! đź’›

Last night I voted against updating our Police Department’s policy to expand the use of drones beyond SWAT operations. Drone as a first responder is unproven at this time, so I was not willing to start us down the path towards $200k-$400k in new drone acquisitions, especially given residents’ concerns about law enforcement’s expanding use of technology. The matter passed 7-1.

Over the next few months, the Pasadena Community Job Center and the artist group 3B Collective will guide community members through the creation of a mural honoring their immigrant and working-class neighbors.

The first brainstorming session will take place at noon Friday, Sept. 18, at the job center, located at 500 N. Lake Ave., Pasadena.

According to the organizers, you don’t need any experience to participate in the project — “just a love for art and your community.”

Thank you for inviting me to speak at your Flock Community Teach In this weekend!

My full remarks are available here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hEUwIsfZI50

It’s time for the full Council to weigh in on this important issue so that we can re-evaluate if we want to continue using Flock in light of the past two years of the second Trump administration, which clearly does not respect our constitutional rights, our laws, and ignores court orders, as well as all the numerous problems we have learned about the Flock product itself, and our Police Department’s proposed expansion of Flock in the city.
