⚠️ Measles is spreading in the Finger Lakes. As of September 4, 2026, Seneca, Steuben, Ontario, Yates, and other surrounding counties have confirmed cases of measles in unvaccinated residents.

🦇 Woke up to a bat?

Safely catch it and call Yates County Public Health at (315) 536-5160. After business hours, call the Yates County Sheriff Dispatch at (315) 536-4438.

🧤 Put on thick gloves and safely catch the bat using a container with a secure lid.

⚠️ The bat may need to be tested for rabies, especially if there was potential contact with people or pets, so do not release it before speaking with Public Health!

Preventative services for chronic disease were identified as one of three priority areas in the 2025–2030 Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP).

Routine screenings and preventive care can help:

🌱 Support longer, healthier lives
🤝 Reduce barriers to accessing care

Thank you to everyone who helped make our August rabies clinic a success!

On Tuesday, August 11, Yates County Public Health hosted a free rabies vaccination clinic at the Yates County Highway Department. Dr. Webb from Eastview Veterinary Clinic, PC vaccinated 82 dogs and 57 cats—a total of 139 animals!

A special thank you to our YCPH staff, MRC volunteers, Eastview Veterinary Clinic, and the Yates County Highway Department for helping make this clinic possible.

Our next rabies clinic will be held on Monday, September 14, 2026, from 6:00–7:00 PM at the Town of Italy Highway Barn.
