📚 Meet Jen Ballard, our new Public Health Specialist! Jen will also serve as the Early Intervention Program Coordinator and Preschool Special Education Program Municipality Rep.

Early childhood education has always been important to Jen. After 17 years of teaching, she’s excited to bring her experience to Yates County Public Health and help young children and their parents and caregivers feel prepared for the educational journey ahead.

Jen is looking forward to meeting more children and families and finding ways to support them. She’s also enjoyed learning about the many programs Public Health offers. A special first-month highlight: meeting all the pets at the Rabies Clinic! 🐾

Outside of work, Jen loves spending time with her husband, their two daughters, and their dogs. We’re glad to have you on the team, Jen!

👋 Meet Meghan Walker, our new Public Health Nurse and Immunization & Tuberculosis Coordinator!

Meghan was born and raised in Yates County and is now raising her kids here. She joined Yates County Public Health to get involved locally and make a difference in a community she calls home.

During her first month, she’s especially enjoyed seeing and interacting with local families. She’s looking forward to continuing to work with the community. Outside of work, Meghan loves spending time with her kids and enjoying fun activities around Yates County.

We’re glad to have you on the team, Meghan!

Measles Question of the Week: Why are we still talking about measles?

Measles continues to spread across New York State and the Finger Lakes Region. Cases in nearby counties can increase the chance of exposure as people travel for work, shopping, sports, and other activities. Swipe to see the latest statewide and county-level data.

Were you born between 1957 and 1985 and aren’t sure about your measles immunity? A childhood rash or family memory may not confirm that you had measles, and some people in this age group may have received only one vaccine dose. A healthcare provider can review your records and may order a blood test to check your immunity.

The MMR vaccine helps protect you and the community, including babies too young to be vaccinated and people who can’t receive the vaccine for medical reasons. Contact your healthcare provider or local pharmacy. If you don’t have insurance, Yates County Public Health offers vaccination appointments: call (315) 536-5160.
