Press Release, City of Pineville, September 2, 2020

As of today, the City of Pineville’s power has been restored to approximately 65%. We are thankful to Cleco and the other contracted companies from surrounding states, and even as far as Puerto Rico that have come to our area to help restore power to Pineville. “The task in front of Cleco is almost overwhelming as the devastation from Hurricane Laura is so widespread,” said Pineville Mayor Clarence Fields. “Thankfully Cleco has brought in thousands of linemen from as far away as Puerto Rico, which demonstrates their commitment to restoring power as quickly as possible. Hopefully, soon all of our citizens will have power restored and we will not rest until that happens.”

The City of Pineville is still under a boil advisory but hopefully will end soon. Our stabilization efforts have reached the point where we can send off water samples for testing, which we did earlier today. We expect to have the boil advisory lifted within a few days, but we still encourage our citizens to boil drinking water or use bottled water for consumption.

Our sewer system continues to operate at a limited capacity, but is getting better each day. We ask that residents to continue to reduce the impact on Pineville’s sewer system until we have fully restored all of our sewer lift stations. “I am proud of our Public Works employees who have tirelessly labored to bring our systems back online. Many of them are still suffering the effects of Hurricane Laura at their homes, but are putting the citizens of Pineville first,” said Public Works Director Charlie Moore.

Water and ice were distributed yesterday at Forts Randolph and Buhlow to Pineville residents with assistance from City employees and volunteers from Journey Church. “Yesterday was such a great day even during this stressful time we are all in. The residents of Pineville were so grateful for the ice and water we provided, and we are appreciative of Journey Church for their assistance with the distribution,” said Pineville Special Events Coordinator Courtney Paige. There will be another ice and water distribution tomorrow, September 3 at Forts Randolph and Buhlow from 8:30 a.m. until 3p.m.

The Central Louisiana Chamber of Commerce and Procter and Gamble have partnered together to bring “Tide, Loads of Hope” to the Central Louisiana community beginning today until Friday, September 4th. This program is a free “pop-up” Laundromat service and is being offered in Pineville at Washland Washateria, which is located at 2651 Hwy 28E and opens at 7a.m. “Once again Proctor and Gamble has proven to be an invaluable community partner by providing this essential service in such a difficult time. We’re also very grateful to Jason Bankston, the owner of the Washland Washateria, and his staff, for being willing to participate and accommodate the extra work involved,” said Rich Dupree, Pineville Chief of Staff.

Please continue to follow Pineville’s page for up to the minute information or call Pineville City Hall at 318-449-5650.

“We continue to work across boundary and governmental lines to bring our city back. We pray for your patience and understanding in this difficult restoration process,” said Mayor Fields.
