*** RESPONSE TO ANIMAL CONTROL QUESTIONS ***

The City of Pineville has been made aware of a social media post that inaccurately portrays the functions of our Animal Control operations – and in particular, an accounting of “Facts” that need to be clarified and corrected.

The City of Pineville has three dedicated employees in Pineville Animal Control, who do their best to work across the board with numerous Rapides Parish animal rescue groups to adopt when possible and return stray animals to their proper owners. What the City of Pineville allows and does not allow has become social media fodder and the following statements will hopefully set that record straight.

First and foremost, changes were made several months ago in accordance with Risk Management, our liability insurance provider, as well as advice from our City Attorney. As you might be able to imagine, allowing “volunteers” access to “vaccinate and/or de-worm” any animal under your care is quite a liability concern. As was allowing “volunteers” into the kennel area – another liability we were asked to change - and we did!

What we do allow the public to do is interact with any animal that we have a picture of on our wall that is considered adoptable. We bring that animal to the lobby area and allow the person(s) to spend time – to look, touch and see just how friendly and adoptable the animal may be. We allow you to take a picture while in our lobby area of the dog or cat you’d like to adopt.

On the subject of “taking pictures” - City of Pineville Animal Control officers are responsible for taking pictures of all adoptable animals and sharing them with the public. We can’t have a “studio set-up” as was requested - but what our employees are doing to post and share pictures of adoptable animals has worked very well with most every rescue group and humane society we have regular contact with…and the numbers show that.

In the last 6 months, only 4 dogs had to be put to sleep – two were wild and two were sick. In 2019 total the number was 12…and most of that was from rabies or related issues.

As of January 2, 2020, we had 8 dogs and 4 cats at our facility. We have a 10-day hold policy on any “stray animal” we pick up. After that ten days…with no claim being made…we begin the process of posting pictures and trying to work with groups to adopt these pets or find them another home.

Pineville Animal Control looks better, smells better and is in the best hands it could be in for what is a thank-less job by many…and that’s what we are hearing from the number of people that frequent our facility looking for a pet.

It is our hope that you will judge for yourself and not accept the opinion of one individual who is not pleased by the changes that we have had to make. Our official address is 1700 Jefferson Highway – but you will find our facility at the top of the hill, just off US Highway 165. The phone number is 318-449-5674.

Tonight, Red River Lodge #36 had their annual Cops and Kids event at WalMart Super Center. Having positive interactions with the community they protect makes the event special, plus seeing all those smiling faces is unbeatable. Merry Christmas!!!!

Our lodge members had a blast shopping with some of our younger citizens tonight for our annual Cops & Kids event! Thank you to Walmart for allowing us to provide this experience for these awesome kids at your store. In addition to the funds our membership puts up for this event annually, we were very fortunate to have donations this year. So thank you to the Bill and Nicole Bailey family and Mr. Jeffery Marien. 🎄🎁🖤💙🖤
