Ceramic artist and sculptor Sharif Bey has returned to his hometown here in Pittsburgh with his stunning Homecoming exhibition at the Andy Warhol Museum.
Foundation staff took a trip to see the works, which are displayed alongside pieces by Jean-Michel Basquiat and Warhol himself. The exhibit is a testament to Pittsburgh's enduring legacy as a home for artistic innovation, and every piece explores the connection between the three artists' shared histories.

Pittsburgh's Negro League teams like the Homestead Grays and Pittsburgh Crawfords weren't only some of the best baseball teams of all time, they also played a transformative role in advancing civil rights and Black economic independence in the United States, but few physical records remain to tell their stories.

Morgan Moody, a Pittsburgh-based TV, film and podcast producer is seeking to change that with her new project, which received funding through the 2025 Advancing Black Arts in Pittsburgh program.

"Despite their profound cultural impact, the role of Black baseball players has been under-documented," Moody said about the project. "I want to preserve and amplify their legacy, by archiving and digitizing the personal scrapbooks, photographs and records of Homestead Greys outfielder Willis Moody, to safeguard these rare primary materials and create an educational tool that can benefit the community for years to come."

Congratulations a.k. payne, a Pittsburgh-based artist and theatermaker, on being named this year's Best Playwright for her play "Furlough’s Paradise" at the 31st annual NAACP Theatre Awards!

In 2023, payne received a two-year Advancing Black Arts in Pittsburgh grant from The Pittsburgh Foundation to support a self-curated playwright residency and the development of new works.

"I feel a strong sense of responsibility to make Pittsburgh a better place."

When donors and nonprofit leaders in Pittsburgh came together to meet and learn about organizations working to address issues in our communities, they sparked ideas, action and hope. The connections they created were unexpected. Some were motivated to learn more about each other by a sense of duty, others by a deep-seeded caring for the region. In the end, everyone shared a common belief: neighbors helping neighbors will make Pittsburgh a better place.

Melike Vivastine Konur is an Afro-Turk American multidisciplinary visual artist, vocalist and cultural strategist working between Pittsburgh and Istanbul.

Konur received a 2025 Advancing Black Arts in Pittsburgh grant to support the research, creation and presentation of Brown Moon, a multidisciplinary, living archive of Afro-Turk matriarchal traditions.

"My goal is to document, preserve and reimagine the endangered cultural memory of Afro-Turk mothers and elders whose songs, recipes and rituals have never been formally archived in an arts context," Konur said about the project.
