LET'S TALK BIRDS!!! ๐Ÿฃ๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿฆโ€โฌ›

Many young birds are fledging their nests at this time of year and sometimes fledgling songbirds can trick people into thinking they need help. Rest assured, the majority of the time, they are not injured or orphaned โ€“ they are just awkward.

If the bird is mostly feathered, it is a fledgling and should be left alone as it learns to hop, forage, and eventually fly. The parents are usually nearby and waiting for you to leave before they check on their young.

If you find a bird that is an unfeathered hatchling, it can be returned to the nest so it can continue to receive parental care. If you can't find the nest, you could create an artificial nest by securing a small basket or container to branches in a nearby tree or shrub so the parents can find and care for it. Make sure it has drainage and is filled with some type of natural nesting material.

Be the voice for the voiceless. Call your MA state representative by May 19 to request they ask Chair Aaron Michlewitz and the House Ways & Means Committee to strengthen Sections 74 and 75 of the Mass Ready Act by including the language from H5217, which would phase out the use of anticoagulant rodenticides statewide.

We want each of the 160 state representatives to receive at least 10 phone calls from their constituents. Together we have power.

Letโ€™s use it to advocate for a ban on anticoagulant rodent poisons across Massachusetts!

Just a reminder, as we have been getting a lot of calls recently requesting removal of deceased wildlife. Animal Control does not remove deceased wildlife, if it is on your property, unfortunately you are responsible for disposal. We do not have a place to take deceased wildlife. I know it is unfortunate, but have you seen Pet Sematary?๐Ÿ’€๐Ÿ˜ฌ
