The Portland Police Department responded to a reported bomb threat after a note was discovered inside a restroom of MSSL 700 Industrial Park Dr. Out of an abundance of caution, the building was evacuated while officers conducted a thorough assessment of the area.

Multiple Portland Police Department officers, including both on-duty and off-duty personnel, responded quickly to assist. Partner agencies also provided support during the incident. The building has since been cleared, and normal operations have resumed.

The investigation remains active. The Portland Police Department is pursuing all available leads. We will seek to hold the responsible party accountable and pursue charges to the fullest extent of the law.

Incidents of this nature are taken very seriously. These situations require immediate deployment of personnel and resources and place employees, patrons, and first responders at potential risk. The Portland Police Department will continue to do everything within its power to protect the citizens of our community and respond quickly to any threat.

We appreciate the cooperation of those involved and the coordinated response from all personnel who assisted.

As we celebrate this Easter season, the Portland Police Department would like to wish everyone in our community a safe and blessed holiday.
Easter is a time of renewal, hope, and reflection. It’s also a time to appreciate the people who make our community strong, our families, our neighbors, and those who continue to serve others each day.
We are grateful for the opportunity to serve the residents of Portland and remain committed to protecting and supporting this community we call home.
From all of us at the Portland Police Department, Happy Easter. Stay safe, enjoy time with your loved ones, and take a moment to reflect on the meaning of the season.

The Portland Police Department is currently investigating multiple incidents involving the crime commonly referred to as “swatting,” which have recently targeted locations within the City of Portland.

“Swatting” involves an individual making a false report via phone, email, or other means of a serious emergency at a specific location, with the intent of prompting a large scale law enforcement response.

These incidents are not only illegal but pose a significant risk to public safety, first responders, and the community. The Portland Police Department takes these matters very seriously and is actively working in coordination with federal law enforcement partners to identify those responsible.

Our goal is to ensure that any individuals involved are held accountable and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

We appreciate the community’s continued cooperation and vigilance

Earlier today, the Portland Police Department responded to a reported bomb threat at Walmart located at 950 West Votaw Street. Officers responded immediately and worked alongside our public safety partners to ensure the safe evacuation of employees and patrons.

We were assisted by the Jay County Sheriff’s Office, Portland Fire Department personnel, EMS, other Portland city personnel, the Indiana State Police, and the Fort Wayne Police Department. We also coordinated with the Federal Bureau of Investigation as part of the ongoing investigation.

Situations like this highlight the importance of preparation, coordination, and having the right equipment in place. We want to recognize and thank our city officials for their support in ensuring our officers are properly equipped and ready to respond at a moment’s notice. That support makes it possible for both on-duty and off-duty personnel to respond quickly and effectively when our community needs it most.

Most importantly, today is a reminder of the dedication shown by the men and women of our law enforcement, fire, and EMS agencies. Their commitment to protecting this community does not go unnoticed.

This remains an active investigation, and updates will be provided as appropriate.

The Portland Police Department remains committed to the safety and security of our community.
