Our final Musical Storytime of the summer is almost here, and we’re closing out the season with a big, high-energy session!

Join us on Saturday, August 29 at 10:00 AM in the Children’s Section of the Potsdam Public Library.

We’ll be singing many favorite kids’ standards, backed by the Storytime Band (made up of talented musicians like Thomas Baker, Tim Yip, Casey DeJesus-Webb, Olivia Brigham, and other friends)featuring guitar, violin, brass, and even 3D-printed instruments! 🎸🎺🎶

Who can come? All ages are welcome! While the music and books are tailored toward younger children 👶 , anyone who loves books and live music is invited to join the fun and encourage the kids!

This project is made possible with funds from the Statewide Community Regrants Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts, with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature, and administered by the St. Lawrence County Arts Council.

ALA is heartbroken at the passing of country music legend, cultural icon, and champion of literacy Dolly Parton.

Dolly’s award-winning Imagination Library initiative, inspired by her father’s inability to read or write, has put hundreds of millions of free books into the hands of children across America and was considered by her to be one of her greatest achievements.

“We’re giving books to kids who wouldn’t have a chance to get them otherwise,” she told American Libraries in a 2018 interview. “A lot of people think this is just for poor children—it’s for all children. It’s important to get books into the hands of any child that we can.”

ALA was proud to confer Dolly with an honorary lifetime membership, the Association’s highest honor, in 2023 for her lasting impact on librarianship, libraries, and the communities they serve.

Dolly was also part of ALA’s Celebrity READ campaign, in which she holds a copy of 'The Little Engine That Could.'

“I’ve always related to that book because I’m the little engine that did!” she said.

Thank you, Dolly. ❤️

The North Country Virtual Manga Book Club is a monthly book club, launching this Tuesday, August 25, 2026, and held via Zoom. Join the club from the comfort of your own home and talk manga with us! What you love, what you crave, what to read next. Anyone in northern New York is welcome to attend. The book club is for all ages.

The first meeting will be a chance for participants to meet each other, review some ground rules for participation, share the manga they’ve been reading, ask and provide recommendations, and make decisions about how the book club will proceed. Make the first meeting this Tuesday and YOU get to make the decisions—how we meet, what we discuss and more!

First meeting is Tuesday, August 25 at 5:00 PM. Subsequent book clubs will meet via Zoom on a recurring monthly date, to be decided at the August meeting of the book club. Parental or caregiver guidance and participation is recommended for participants under 13.
