Last Tuesday we hosted a "What Every Boater Should Know About Their Wake" Event with speaker Sami Selter from MN Lakes and Rivers. She came to talk about the effects of boat waves on water quality and what you can do about it.

We hosted a Conservation Farming Tour with our PLSLWD Board and Community Advisory Committee members. During the tour, members were able learn about no-till fields, cover crops, and more within our agricultural community. Members then met to discuss upcoming projects and plan for the coming year.

On Spring Lake in early May, we did carp radio tagging to get a better sense of their movement patterns and where they like to group. By the last week of May, we were able to track their spawning areas using both the radio tagging and reports from our amazing Carp Espionage volunteers.

With that information, we carried out a targeted electrofishing removal and successfully removed over 1,000 pounds of carp from Spring Lake!

For the 7th year in a row, we partnered with the Spring Lake Association to stock 2,325 Bluegills in Spring Lake which serve as a biocontrol method to reduce carp recruitment. Thank you to our volunteers that came to help out!

Please join us in welcoming Kate Gross to PLSLWD as a Water Resources Intern.

Kate is a graduate of the University of St. Thomas with a degree in Environmental Studies and a Biology minor. She is passionate about environmental education and community engagement.

Fun Fact: Kate has made it her personal goal to go to a new National Park each summer and has already been to 12, the furthest being Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park!

We are excited to have her as part of our team and look forward to all the fun experiences and adventures with her.
