Please join us in welcoming Kate Gross to PLSLWD as a Water Resources Intern.

Kate is a graduate of the University of St. Thomas with a degree in Environmental Studies and a Biology minor. She is passionate about environmental education and community engagement.

Fun Fact: Kate has made it her personal goal to go to a new National Park each summer and has already been to 12, the furthest being Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park!

We are excited to have her as part of our team and look forward to all the fun experiences and adventures with her.

UPPER PRIOR LAKE ALUM TREATMENT COMPLETED!

It's a wrap for the Upper Prior Lake phase II alum treatment. The crew finished applying yesterday and will now work to get all equipment out by tomorrow - just in time for the beautiful Memorial Day weekend.

Monitoring will continue after the treatment to ensure effectiveness and safety. Status updates will be posted on our website at https://plslwd.org/projects/UPL-alum-phase2

Phase II of alum treatment on Upper Prior Lake is starting today!

If you see a large barge out on Upper Prior Lake, this is the alum treatment barge. It will deposit alum over the areas of lakebed with high phosphorus levels.

THINGS TO KNOW:
🚢The barge will depart from and be refilled at the DeWitte Boat Launch. Residents may see temporary holding tanks and increased semi-truck traffic near the boat ramp.

🚤Boaters and other lake users should stay clear of the barge, but Upper Prior Lake will remain safe for swimming, fishing, and boating during the treatment.

🌊The District's retained limnologist will be monitoring the lake throughout and after the treatment to ensure it's effectiveness and safety.

🚧Road Closed starting tomorrow May 12🚧
Dakota St will be closed in front of City Hall for the next few weeks. As a result, the Police Dept. parking lot will be closed too. It's all part of the construction and utility update for the Cora Apartments.

MN Fishing Opener This Weekend!🐟
It’s an exciting time of year for us Minnesotan’s ~ the fishing opener. Nothing beats good weather and spending time on the lakes trying to catch a good fishing story.
When it’s time to come back to shore, don’t forget to CLEAN, DRAIN, DRY and DISPOSE (CD3).
• CLEAN watercraft and equipment to remove aquatic plants and invasive species
• DRAIN all the water and leave drain plugs out
• DRY watercraft and equipment (recommended for at least 5 days before using in another water body).
• DISPOSE of unwanted bait in the trash
Reminder, we have a free self-serve CD3 boat cleaning station at Lower Prior Lake Public Water Access available 24/7 for you use.

Clean, Drain, Dry and Dispose (CD3)

Remember to always Clean, Drain, and Dry your watercraft and equipment before leaving a lake to prevent the spread of invasive species.

In partnership with the Minnesota DNR, we’ve installed a free self-service CD3 boat cleaning station at Lower Prior Lake Public Water Access. This station includes a grabber tool and a plug wrench to remove plants, mud and debris from hard-to-reach places and is available 24/7.

By cleaning your boat after each use, you are doing your part in preventing the spread of Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS), so that our lakes and rivers can be protected and enjoyed to their fullest potential.
