We're excited to share Sergeant Dallas Stadick is participating in the 2026 Special Olympics Minnesota Law Enforcement Torch Run Final Leg! He was selected to represent not just the Savage Police Department, but all of Minnesota law enforcement. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ”ฅ

Here's the first report from Sgt. Stadick: "Today is the official start of the 2026 USA Games Law Enforcement Torch Run Final Leg. The Flame of Hope will be lit at the Eternal Flame in Chicago and then embark on what will be a 10,000-mile journey around the United States, finishing in Minnesota. Our first torch run today will be a little more than two miles along Lake Michigan, finishing inside Soldier Field where a reception will be hosted by our friends at Special Olympics Illinois."

Weโ€™ll be cheering him on and sharing fun updates of his journey across the West Coast with other law enforcement professionals and Special Olympics athletes, all leading up to Opening Ceremony of the Special Olympics USA Games in Minneapolis. ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Did you know May is Bike Safety Month? Our officers have been out and about this month, keeping an eye out for safe riding habits. Kids who show great bike safety may be โ€œstoppedโ€ for a highโ€‘five, a shoutโ€‘out, or even a cool prize! ๐Ÿ™Œ

Stay safe and follow the rules of the road- whether youโ€™re riding to school, the park, or just around the neighborhood. Ride smart. Ride safe. Wear that helmet! ๐Ÿšฒ

On May 4, the Savage and Prior Lake Police Departments, along with Beyond the Yellow Ribbon South of the River, the United States Marine Corps League, the Savage American Legion, and Prior Lake-Savage School Board, honored local youth enlisting in the military and their families. The evening featured a dinner provided by the Pointe Grill and Bar and the Savage American Legion, during which several past military members and their families spoke about their experiences. The evening continued to the Savage City Council meeting, where Mayor Kelly read a formal proclamation, recognizing the commitment of these new service members.

The event was made possible by generous donations and support from various community organizations. We are so proud of these dedicated individuals and wish them safety and success as they begin their service to our country.

Today, on National Peace Officers Memorial Day, we pause to honor the brave officers who made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting our communities.

In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls, as National Police Week. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.

Thank you to all who wear the badge- and to those we have lost, your legacy lives on. ๐Ÿ’™
