Happy E-Bike Day!
E-Bikes in the Park (today, August 17, 4 – 6 PM) is an event provided through a collaborative partnership among Scott County Public Health, SHIP (Statewide Health Improvement Partnership), the Shakopee Police Department, the Scott County Sheriff's Office, and Scott County Parks. Together, we’re bringing local partners and families together to promote safe, responsible, and enjoyable bicycling for community members of all ages, with a special focus on youth riders and their caregivers.

During the event, attendees will have the opportunity to learn about: Safe e-bike riding practices, Minnesota traffic laws and trail etiquette, proper helmet use, and the unique features and considerations associated with e-bikes. It will also include educational presentations from local bike shops, safety demonstrations, and opportunities to explore and learn about different types of bicycles. Our goal is to help residents build the knowledge and confidence needed to ride safely and responsibly while encouraging healthy, active transportation.

We look forward to bringing the community together for an engaging and educational evening and hope to see you this evening at Jackson Commons Park, 2345 Zumbro Ave, Shakopee. Treats and giveaways will be provided!

Happy National Breastfeeding Month! Scott County Public Health has received a “Breastfeeding Friendly Health Department” award from the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) for its contributions to the health of parents and their babies, acknowledging its commitment to acting as a model for the community by supporting healthy families and receiving the business benefits of supporting breastfeeding parents.

Breastfeeding is a foundational way to ensure that babies receive optimal nutrition during the first formative years of life. Studies show that infants who are breastfed have better health outcomes as they grow. “This Gold Status recognition reflects the hard work of staff from across the department who came together over the past year and a half. It’s a testament to how important this designation is to those of us working to serve our community, and to our commitment as a worksite to embody the values we seek to inspire in other worksites across Scott County,” noted Natalie Halverson, Health Promotion Supervisor.
