Plan to take part in Prospect Public Library's Virtual Author Talk on June 16. Join Larry Rifkin on Zoom as he interviews Rod Phillips author of "Cats: A History" which shares the sweeping cultural and social history of felines, tracing their shifting place across societies and centuries, from ancient Egypt's revered hunters to Europe's suspected familiars of witches and from shipboard rodent controllers to cherished internet icons. The many roles that cats have played throughout history illuminate a variety of contradictions in humans' perceptions of them: as affectionate yet aloof, adorable and evil, ordinary and exceptional. This is an elegant study of how we live with animals whom we see as living by their own rules.

Zoom link will be emailed in advance of the event.

The Prospect Public Library is pleased to host an exhibit of the paintings of Eddie Hall throughout the month of June. Eddie Hall is a self-taught abstract artist based in Berlin, Connecticut, known for creating vibrant, geometric works using recycled windows as his canvas. Drawing inspiration from architecture and design, his art transforms discarded materials into bold visual narratives. He is currently pursuing the ambitious goal of exhibiting at every Connecticut library.
Many pieces begin with an architectural inspiration, whether it's the entire structure of a building or a single, defining design element. From there, Eddie uses a variety of mediums—acrylic paints, raw gesso, translucent & matte layers, and metallic leaf—in his continual exploration of what is possible in his work.
“In the end, I hope my work encourages others to see the beauty in the discarded and the ordinary, finding inspiration in the everyday structures that surround us.”
