Rhode Island Department of Business Regulation

Rhode Island Department of Business Regulation Banking, Insurance, Securities, Commercial Licensing, Gaming and Athletics, Accountants, Building, Design and Fire Professionals

DBR is the regulator for a wide variety of businesses in the state. DBR does not, however, regulate every type of business in Rhode Island. We have regulatory authority over specific industries through Rhode Island Statute. Below is a directory of our major divisions and some popular sub-divisions. Click through our website or contact the Department to learn more, and if you need assistance and we aren’t the right place, we will work to connect you with the department or agency that can help.

Most people don’t wake up excited to talk about insurance—but we do!

Yesterday, members of our Division traveled to Block Island to meet with residents.

The event drew a great turnout and sparked meaningful discussion about the impact climate change is having on insurance. Staff helped residents understand their rights as consumers and shared tips on how to save money on premiums.

We appreciate everyone who took the time to attend and helped make this event a success as we continue our efforts to connect with communities across and empower residents with the information they need to make informed insurance decisions.

Did you know?

Anyone in doing residential or commercial work—such as building, remodeling, or repairs—valued at $500 or more, MUST be registered by the state.

Today, the Department and Contractors' Registration and Licensing Board held an event reminding consumers to check their contractor's registration and verify they are in good standing with the state before entering into a contract or paying them.

It's easy to do at crb.ri.gov.
