Rhode Island Department of Business Regulation Banking, Insurance, Securities, Commercial Licensing, Gaming and Athletics, Accountants, Building, Design and Fire Professionals

DBR is the regulator for a wide variety of businesses in the state. DBR does not, however, regulate every type of business in Rhode Island. We have regulatory authority over specific industries through Rhode Island Statute. Below is a directory of our major divisions and some popular sub-divisions. Click through our website or contact the Department to learn more, and if you need assistance and we aren’t the right place, we will work to connect you with the department or agency that can help.

Good government means removing outdated or unnecessary barriers while maintaining high standards.

We thank Governor Dan McKee and the General Assembly for helping to create a new pathway to becoming a CPA in Rhode Island. The new law addresses the growing shortage of Certified Public Accountants by giving aspiring professionals more flexible options to enter the field.

This commonsense reform will help strengthen Rhode Island’s workforce, expand career opportunities, and ensure everyone continues to have access to qualified accounting professionals.

🚨 Before you hit "apply," please know that this position requires specific qualifications and credentials. Although optimism is encouraged and appreciated, unfortunately it is not currently recognized as part of the building code.

Did you know 98% of people think is exciting?

Ok, we may have made that up, but we were thrilled to take part in yesterday’s AICP Region 1 Compliance Summit in Worcester.

Department Director and President-elect of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners Beth Dwyer participated in a panel on using AI responsibly.

Most people don’t wake up excited to talk about insurance—but we do!

Yesterday, members of our Division traveled to Block Island to meet with residents.

The event drew a great turnout and sparked meaningful discussion about the impact climate change is having on insurance. Staff helped residents understand their rights as consumers and shared tips on how to save money on premiums.

We appreciate everyone who took the time to attend and helped make this event a success as we continue our efforts to connect with communities across and empower residents with the information they need to make informed insurance decisions.
