ACT is thrilled to congratulate the winners of the first cohort of Providence writers to attend the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, MA! Earlier this year, ACT launched a new scholarship program in partnership with the Fine Arts Work Center, that provides free tuition and housing as well as a $500 stipend to help defray the costs of transportation and food associated with taking a writing workshop.

A panel featuring local writers and ACT staff awarded writers Justice Ameer , Sean Richardson , Vikki Warner and Ellen Zahniser with the four summer writing scholarships! Congratulations, writers!

Last month we gathered in celebration a new mural honoring the legacy of three significant people in South Providence’s history: Sgt. Cornel Young, Jr., Charlotte Woods, and B. Jae Clanton. Held at the Sgt. Cornel Young, Jr. & Charlotte Woods Elementary School at the B. Jae Clanton Complex (Young Woods), ACT, in partnership with Young Woods were proud to unveil the new mural created by Kendel Joseph . After a competitive artist open call, Kendel was awarded the contract in November 2025 and worked through the winter to complete the mural. Congratulations to Kendel Joseph and thank you to Young Woods Elementary for the dedication and determination to make this mural a possibility. Read more about how it all came together on our blog by visiting the link in our bio.

ACT, in collaboration with the Providence Public Library , AS220 and OPEN are honoring the legacy of our friend and colleague Adrian “Paris” Fernandez with the group exhibition at the Joan T. Boghossian Gallery on the third floor of the library.

Paris + Friends is on view at the Joan T. Boghossian Gallery at the Providence Public Library,150 Empire Street, Providence.

This group show features the work of over 60 artists who all worked with Paris in various times and spaces over the last decade. Thank you to everyone who saw the call and brought your work. The space is a testament to our friend in all his vibrant, multi-disciplinary, cross-cultural, brilliance.

The Gallery is open during regular PPL hours. We invite all to join us for a special gathering on April 4, from 4-6 PM as we celebrate the life of Paris, and the artists of Paris + Friends.

We are excited to share about our next show at the Gallery at City Hall:

Seeing Beauty in Transition feature paintings and photographs by Karen Harris and Tom Wedell at the The Gallery at City Hall, 25 Dorrance Street, Providence, RI.

Seeing Beauty in Transition will be on view from March 19—May 18, 2026.

About the show: Observing the life cycle of leaves, the artists reflect on themes of transition, endurance, and the journey of life itself. This attention to natural processes mirrors a personal journey of change, where comfort and grounding are found in careful observation. Seeing Beauty in Transition invites viewers to consider time not as loss, but as transformation—where decay, memory, and renewal exist together.
