UPDATE AS 2:25 p.m.
The Shelter-in-Place for this incident has been lifted and Hwy 50 is now open in both directions. There will still be law enforcement presence in the area until the truck can be fully recovered.
There is no anticipated threat to the public.
AVOID THE AREA OF HWY 50 EAST NEAR AVONDALE DUE TO A HAZMAT INCIDENT
The Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office, the Colorado State Patrol, and Pueblo Rural Fire are working on a hazmat incident involving an overturned tanker truck on Hwy 50 north of Avondale. Hwy 50 from Wheeler Lane to Avondale Blvd. is closed to both east and westbound traffic.
The alternate route for westbound traffic is south on Avondale Blvd. to McHarg Road and west on McHarg to Wheeler Ln., north on Wheeler to Hwy 50.
For those traveling eastbound: South on Wheeler Ln to McHarg, east to Avondale Blvd, and north to Hwy 50.
While there is no immediate threat to the public, residents living within a one-mile radius of the affected area are asked to shelter in place.
Please avoid the area.
The highway is expected to remain closed for some time.
