SEPTEMBER IS EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS MONTH

Emergencies can happen anytime—but being prepared can help protect you, your family, your employees, and your community.

Who? Restaurant owners, managers, food employees.

What? Do you have a plan for protecting food, monitoring temperatures, maintaining water and sanitation, safety responding to a power outage.

Why? A power outage can affect refrigeration, cooking equipment, water, sewage, lighting, and other systems needed to operate safely. When food temperatures cannot be controlled, food may become unsafe.

When: Before-Prepare an emergency plan, During-Keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed. After-Evaluate food and equipment before resuming normal operations.

How? Keep thermometers available, document food temperatures, have a plan, contact EMD, when in doubt, throw it out.

Last week, EMD participated in the 20th Annual Sustainability Awards. Staff engaged with local small businesses and shared innovations in the field that balance economic and environmental sustainability.

🌟 This event was hosted by the Sacramento County Office of Economic Development and Business Environmental Resource Center, also known as BERC. BERC works closely with multiple county agencies to provide free services to businesses seeking compliance. Even products labeled “flushable” can cause problems for your pipes and septic system.
