Abusers threaten, injure, and at times kill pets in order to create an environment of fear within the home. They may force children in the home to witness or even participate in harming the pet.
Victims may also stay in an abusive home because they don't want to leave their pet although safety should be their number 1 priority and we have services to take care of all the family, including an outside kennel. (Statistic from dvawareness.org).

October is also Domestic Violence Awareness Month, our office is wearing purple to show our support for survivors of domestic violence, honor those we have lost, and raise awareness for a cause that affects far too many lives.

Behind every statistic is a real person, a family, and a story that deserves to be heard. Domestic violence is not always visible, but the pain and lasting effects are real. We stand with survivors, remember the lives lost, and hope for a future where everyone can live free from fear and abuse.

Last week, The Lighthouse hosted its 8th Annual Domestic Violence Vigil, a time to support survivors and honor the victims whose lives were taken by domestic violence. It was a beautiful evening at May Day Park in Daphne, marked by the most incredible sunset.

We are grateful to Mayor LeJeune for his continued support, to Judge Laurie Hoyt for serving as our speaker, to our Board Members, and to the two youth task force volunteers who assisted throughout the event. Thank you to all the community members who attended, stood with us, and showed their commitment to supporting survivors and advocating for change.

💜 Today is Purple Friday in Spanish Fort! 💜

Mayor Brad Bass and his team are wearing purple in support of Domestic Violence Awareness Week of Action, standing together to raise awareness and show support for survivors and their families.

In partnership with The Lighthouse of Baldwin County, we recognize that domestic violence and sexual assault affect millions of people each year across every community. Raising awareness is an important step toward prevention, healing, and ensuring survivors know they are not alone.

The Lighthouse is a local nonprofit dedicated to eliminating family violence and sexual assault through education, intervention, and community collaboration. Services include a 24-hour crisis line, individual and group counseling, case management, court advocacy, transitional housing, children's advocacy, prevention education, and safe shelter for those in danger. The organization serves Baldwin, Monroe, Conecuh, and Escambia counties in Alabama.
