It’s that time of year! With temperatures climbing, it's a critical time to talk about summer vehicle safety.

Please remember: NEVER leave your dog or kid in the car.

Even on a mild or comfortable day, a vehicle acts like a greenhouse. Temperatures inside can quickly reach deadly, suffocating levels in just a matter of minutes and rolling down the windows or parking in the shade is not enough.

MEET YOUR NEW OFFICER:

Officer Dallas White joined the Rockland Police Department in fall 2025, graduating yesterday from the Maine Criminal Justice Academy’s 49th Basic Law Enforcement Training Program. After 18 weeks, Dallas is excited to begin his field training and serving the citizens of Rockland.

Prior to his law enforcement career, Dallas served in the United States Army as a Combat Medic from 2006 to 2012. During this time he served multiple deployments to both Iraq and Afghanistan. His military awards include the Purple Heart, Combat Medical Badge, and Combat Action Badge.

After leaving the Army, Dallas owned and operated a property inspection business in North Carolina before moving to Maine with his family. He has also competed in multiple Pokémon World Championships, including internationally, which is a first for RPD.

Dallas is grateful for the opportunity to serve the City of Rockland and looks forward to meeting members of the community.

Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter, fitness, fantasy football, and working on projects around the house.

ROCKLAND POLICE BENEVOLENT ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP

Last night Rockland Police were proud to award Oceanside High School Seniors Franklin Whytock and Evan Riley with Rockland Police Benevolent Association Scholarships. Franklin will be pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice and Evan will be attending UMaine's Civil Engineering Program.

The Rockland Police Benevolent Association Scholarships are funded entirely by the officers themselves, using private funds contributed from their weekly paychecks. Rockland Police Benevolent Association Scholarships have been awarded every year since 2008, and we have given out over $14,000 dollars to graduating Ocean Side High Students in that time.

Please join us in congratulating Franklin, Evan and the entire OHS Class of 2026!

🇺🇸Memorial Day 2026🇺🇸

"Our debt to the heroic men and valiant women in the service of our country can never be repaid. They have earned our undying gratitude. America will never forget their sacrifices."

- President Harry S. Truman-

———————————————————

Every service member who has made the ultimate sacrifice was someone's child. Many were parents, husband, wives, brothers and sisters.

The boy in this now iconic photo is named Christian; he was 8 when his father U.S. Marine Staff Sgt. Marcus Andrew “Marc” Golczynski was killed in combat in Iraq in 2007.

Christian went on to help the organization A Soldier's Child, who provides assistance to children of fallen military members by providing birthday celebrations, scholarship assistance and outdoor mentorship programs. You can find their organization here:
