Yesterday, May 29th, local law enforcement partners came together to participate in the Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR). Even some of Ruidoso’s own joined in!

Law enforcement members and first responders from various levels, including federal, national, state, provincial, local, and even military sectors, come together to support this noble cause. Their collaboration extends beyond mere participation; it signifies a commitment to fostering a society where everyone, irrespective of their abilities, is embraced and celebrated. The LETR is the largest public awareness / fundraising movement for the Special Olympics globally!

We are proud of those who participated and thankful for those who came out to cheer them on!

⚠️ Flash Flood Safety Reminder ⚠️

With the upcoming rainy / flood season, Ruidoso is at an increased risk for flash flooding, especially in low-lying areas, roadways, rivers / creeks, and past flood zone areas are prone to rapid water runoff. Although the flood waters are dangerous within themselves, debris within the water can be easily hidden and is a huge danger. Flash floods can happen quickly and with little warning. Just a small amount of moving water can carry away a vehicle and create dangerous conditions for drivers and pedestrians.

Please remember these important safety tips:
🚫 Never drive through flooded roadways — Turn Around, Don’t Drown
🔊 Monitor local weather alerts and emergency notifications
🚗 Use caution when traveling during heavy rainfall
🌧️Be prepared to move to higher ground if flooding develops near your area
📲 Sign up for emergency alerts at www.callmeruidoso.com

If you encounter flooded roadways, hazardous conditions, or an emergency situation, contact our department immediately. You can also see current road closures at ruidosoready.com

As always, we will be out and about to help. Stay safe and plan accordingly. Stay up to date with natural disaster situations with following the Ruidoso Police Department and Village of Ruidoso on social media.

We send our condolences to the Roswell Police Department and the family of Officer Irvin.

The Roswell Police Department is mourning the death of Officer Daniel Irvin, who passed away Wednesday night (May 13) in Roswell. Officer Irvin was assigned to RPD’s Patrol Division and had served in the department for almost four and a half years. He was 28.

At about 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, RPD personnel were dispatched to an apartment in the Spring River Luxury Apartment Homes in the 1600 block of North Sycamore Avenue. Officer Irvin was found deceased from what is believed to be a self-inflicted wound. The Chaves County Sheriff’s Office helped secure the scene. The New Mexico State Police is investigating the incident. CCSO and NMSP further assisted RPD by handling all calls in the city throughout the night, until 7 a.m. Thursday.

Officer Irvin was a Field Training Officer for RPD, working with newly-sworn officers. He was named M.A.D.D. DUI Rookie of the Year in 2024. He also received numerous letters of commendation from RPD, including for apprehending an escapee from the Chaves County Detention Center and participating in the Organized Retail Crime detail.

Our condolences go out to Officer Irvin’s family and friends. RPD appreciates the support of the community during this difficult time for his law-enforcement family.

🚪Community Awareness: Door to Door Solicitors 🚪

As the weather warms up, you may notice an increase in door-to-door salesmen in the community. The following guidelines are in place in order to make safer door-to-door sales:

- Must contact the Village of Ruidoso for permit / registration guidelines
- Must have a valid company ID card by the company they represent
- Must have a written contact by the company they represent
- Time restrictions are 9-6pm on weekdays and 10-5pm on weekends
- Must display company name, address, and phone number

We encourage everyone to exercise caution when speaking with unknown individuals at their home. If you notice suspicious behavior, individuals overstaying there welcome, or the salesman cannot provide ID / proof they are with the alleged company, do not hesitate to contact our department. Stay alert, look out for your neighbors, and as always, we are here to help.
