In honor of Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we have invited a guest speaker to specifically discuss the Japanese American experience during World War II.

On one hand, Japanese Americans were rounded up and shipped off to grim "internment camps" in remote and desolate locations.

On the other hand, when allowed to join the war effort, Japanese Americans went on to become some of the most decorated soldiers in US Army history.

Unfortunately, there are some today who would rather erase both of these historical facts. This brings us to the importance of archivists like UNH's Special Collections Librarian Kai Uchida, who will lead this discussion. Come and learn what he and others are doing to preserve primary-source materials.

Rye resident and artist Dave Turbide is displaying his work in the library’s Community Meeting Room gallery. He is president of the Rye Art Study group, which the library is proud to be taking under its wing. We are now calling for submissions for our new downstairs display —
