Sacramento Superior Court has been notified of "smishing" campaigns targeting Californians.

Smishing is a cybercrime in which scammers send text messages pretending to be from trusted organizations—such as courts, government agencies, or law enforcement—to trick people into clicking malicious links, sharing personal information, or providing payment information.

These messages are designed to create a sense of urgency and may claim that you have an outstanding traffic citation, an unpaid toll, a missed court appearance, or another legal matter requiring immediate action.

⚠️ The image below is an example of a fraudulent text message. It is not a legitimate court communication.

If you receive a suspicious text message:
• Do not click on any links or attachments.
• Do not reply to the sender.
• Delete the message, report it as junk/spam, and block the number.

Always verify court information through your local superior court's official website or by contacting the court directly using publicly listed phone numbers—not the contact information provided in a suspicious text message.
