Last weekend, Controller Cohen joined African American Community Service Agency's 45th Annual Juneteenth in the Streets Festival in San José. For more than four decades, this festival has brought together thousands of Californians to celebrate culture and community through music, health resources, and local businesses, an achievement recognized with a certificate presented by the Controller. Controller Cohen also spoke on the importance of financial literacy to expand economic opportunity and her experience as a Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) graduate.

Today we recognize 161 years of freedom and honor the history, resilience, and achievements of African Americans. Juneteenth is a celebration of freedom, but also a reminder of our responsibility to build a future where every Californian has access to opportunity. Through financial empowerment, educational access, and community investment, we continue working toward a stronger and more equitable California for all.

Controller Cohen had the pleasure of speaking at San Francisco Supervisor Bilal Mahmood 馬百樂's press conference on the Fair Chance Ordinance expansion this morning. This initiative builds on the ordinance she co-authored in 2014 as a San Francisco Supervisor, now including protections for reproductive rights & gender affirming care.

Through her public service career and beyond Pride Month, Controller Cohen holds strong in championing rights for LGBTQ+, women, and communities of color.
