You don’t have to be a tree hugger to be an Energy Safety intern, but you do need to hug some trees.🌲🌲🌲

Earlier in the month, interns Naomi (UC Santa Cruz) and Isa (UC Santa Barbara) traveled to Lake Tahoe with the environmental science division. Their task, to measure tree circumference for utility crews to identify the need for trimming or the removal of dying (hazard) trees that could fall onto power lines.

We’re grateful for the hard work of all our interns who gain experience while they learn in support of Energy Safety’s mission.

During July, Energy Safety was proud to participate and learn at multiple events celebrating Disability Pride Month!

We connected over our shared love of ice cream.

We played with sensory tools to learn about their calming and focusing effects on the nervous system.

We listened to the lived experiences of state leaders with disabilities and how we can build a California where everyone may participate, contribute, and thrive.

Although we’re nearing month’s end, Energy Safety will continue to grow and uplift identities, promote resilience, and celebrate the contributions of people with disabilities in the workplace.

July is Disability Pride Month and today we were able to play with fidgets! Fidgets are not just toys; they are tools that help people regulate and concentrate. They create a sensory experience that redirects the focus from anxiety and stress to calmness and concentration.

On June 19th, 1865, two years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation, Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas with the news that the more than 250,000 enslaved Black people in the state were free.

Juneteenth has always been more than a holiday. The day stands as a testament to and celebration of the unyielding spirit of a people. As it has since its inception, Energy Safety will continue to fulfill its core safety mission, contribute to the push for a more equitable and just society, and strive to develop and maintain an inclusive and diverse workforce, one that reflects the composition of the communities served by the utilities we regulate.
