🚨 MORE THAN $500,000 IN STOLEN CARGO RECOVERED

On July 28, investigators with the CHP - Inland Division Cargo Theft Interdiction Program served a search warrant at a discount retail store in Rialto and recovered more than $500,000 in stolen merchandise.

Through investigative efforts, investigators determined the business was storing cargo connected to multiple thefts throughout Southern California. The recovered merchandise was returned to the victims.

Cargo theft impacts businesses, consumers, and our economy. The CHP remains committed to disrupting organized cargo theft, recovering stolen property, and holding those responsible accountable.

Last week, CHP - San Francisco joined law enforcement agencies from across Northern California at the San Francisco Giants' annual Law Enforcement Appreciation Night. The event recognized officers whose exceptional service and dedication continue to make a lasting impact in the communities they serve.

We are proud to recognize Officer Tony Ortolani, a 20-year CHP veteran, for earning the California Highway Patrol's Top Performer Award and making 125 DUI arrests in 2025. His unwavering commitment to removing impaired drivers from California's roadways has played a vital role in protecting the traveling public.

Despite having the opportunity to work any assignment, Officer Ortolani Continues to volunteer for the graveyard shift, demonstrating his dedication to serving during the hours when impaired driving poses one of the greatest risks to public safety.

Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition. your professionalism, commitment, and dedication to public safety exemplify the highest standards of the California Highway Patrol.

🚨$2.5 MILLION WORTH OF CO***NE SEIZED ON I-5🚨

On July 26, 2026, CHP - Coalinga officers conducted an enforcement stop on a 2019 Honda Ridgeline for a vehicle code violation on Interstate 5 in Fresno County.

During the stop, the officer observed several indicators consistent with criminal activity. The driver consented to a search of the vehicle, which led to the discovery of 25 kilogram-sized packages.

The driver and passenger were arrested, and the suspected narcotics were turned over to the Fresno High Impact Investigations Team (HIIT). Subsequent testing confirmed the packages contained co***ne, with an estimated street value of approximately $2.5 million.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of retired Deputy Commissioner Gerald “Jerry” Clemons, ID 1518, one of the most influential leaders in California Highway Patrol history, whose lifetime of public service left an enduring impact on the Department and the people of California.

A proud U.S. Navy veteran, Jerry Clemons joined the California Highway Patrol in 1954 and rose through the ranks to become the Department’s Deputy Commissioner. Throughout his distinguished career, he helped shape the future of the CHP by spearheading the Women Traffic Officer Program (WTOP), advocating for modern weapons and soft body armor to better protect officers, establishing the Department’s Physical Performance Program, and helping bring the CHP Academy on Reed Avenue from vision to reality.

After retiring from the CHP in 1983, Deputy Commissioner Clemons continued serving the people of California as the Director of Law Enforcement for the California Department of Justice, where he carried forward the same commitment to public safety and professional excellence that defined his CHP career.

Deputy Commissioner Clemons’ leadership, vision, and dedication continue to influence the CHP today. His legacy lives on through the programs he championed, the Department he helped shape, and the generations of CHP employees who continue to build upon his work.

We extend our deepest condolences to Deputy Commissioner Clemons’ family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing and serving alongside him.

CHP South Los Angeles officers observed a vehicle weaving within lanes of Interstate 710 south, north of State Route 91. The officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. After contacting and identifying the driver, it was determined the driver had outstanding misdemeanor warrants for his arrest. The driver fled from the traffic stop in a reckless manner and managed to evade the pursuing officers. The vehicle managed to get away that night, but time was on our side.

Later, officers with the CHP Street Racing Enforcement Unit obtained a signed 30-day seizure warrant for the vehicle. The vehicle and the driver were located at an address within the city of Paramount. The vehicle was seized per the signed warrant, and the driver was arrested for felony evasion along with his outstanding warrants.

Don't make matters worse. Recklessly evading police is a felony (California Vehicle Code 2800.2).

Seat Belts Save Lives.

Thankfully, the driver involved in this crash was properly utilizing a seatbelt which reduced serious injuries and likely contributed to saving their life.

Too many lives are impacted each year because vehicle occupants are not properly restrained.

All drivers and passengers are reminded to:

• Use seat belts properly during every trip
• Shoulder belt should be worn across the chest area
• Lap belt should be worn low and across the hip/pelvic area
• Do not place the seat belt behind your back or underneath your arm
• Children must be properly restrained in a child safety seat or booster seat as appropriate.

A common misconception? We're just “AAA with a badge.” The reality is, as California's State Police, the CHP mission extends far beyond traffic enforcement.

In just the last year and a half, CHP has:
• Recovered 25,320 stolen vehicles
• Recovered $76.1 million in stolen goods from organized retail theft
• Seized 2,697.09 pounds of fentanyl
• Seized 5,772 crime-related fi****ms
• Investigated 99 crimes against children

These are just a few examples of the work happening every day across California. While motorists often see us on the highway, our mission reaches into communities across the state through criminal investigations, public safety, and emergency response.

The CHP is more than traffic enforcement. We are California’s State Police.
