⚠️ Driver rolls car after claiming to have fallen asleep⚠️

Last Friday (9/11/2026), officers responded to a solo vehicle crash eastbound on State Route 152, east of Road 16.

The driver claimed to have fallen asleep behind the wheel, resulting in a rollover crash. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

The California Highway Patrol would like to remind the motoring public that drowsy driving can be just as dangerous as driving impaired. A moment of fatigue can lead to delayed reactions, loss of control, and serious crashes-including rollovers. If you're feeling sleepy, pull over somewhere safe, take a break, and get some rest before continuing.

⚠️ PUT THE PHONE DOWN. PAY ATTENTION. ⚠️

A fatal traffic crash is already a tragedy. Don't create another one.

While officers investigated a fatality crash, numerous motorists were observed using their phones to record video and take photographs while driving past the scene.

Driving through or near an emergency scene, or road closure, requires your full attention. Looking at a phone—even for a few seconds—takes your eyes off the road and can put CHP officers, firefighters, tow operators, roadway workers, other motorists, and you at risk.

📵 A crash scene is not a photo opportunity.

Slowing unnecessarily to film or photograph an incident can also contribute to traffic congestion, create additional delays, and interfere with the safe and efficient movement of traffic around a closure.

When approaching an emergency scene:

• Put the phone down and keep your eyes on the road.
• Follow all directions from officers and traffic-control personnel.
• Slow down and be prepared for sudden stops or lane changes.
• Do not stop, linger, or unnecessarily slow down to take photos or video.
• Give emergency personnel the space they need to safely do their jobs.

Behind every fatal crash is a family receiving devastating news. Please respect the scene, respect those involved, and drive responsibly.

No photo or video is worth another crash, another injury, or another life.

Drive focused. Drive safely. Let us do our job so everyone can get home safely.

Post mile markers help identify your exact location. This becomes especially important during emergencies as they allow first responders to quickly pinpoint where you are.

Knowing how to read a post mile marker can help when seconds matter.

📍 Top #: Highway or Route Number
📍 Middle Letters: Three letter abbreviation of the county you are in
📍 Bottom Numbers: Exact miles from the county line

For example, in this picture, you are on State Route 70 in Plumas County and are 50.50 miles from the Plumas County line.

If you don't see a cross road, look for the nearest post mile marker and provide that information to dispatch when reporting a crash, traffic hazard, or other emergency.

🚔 TRAFFIC STOPS ARE ABOUT MORE THAN JUST TRAFFIC SAFETY

Every traffic stop begins with a simple goal: keeping our roadways safe. Speeding, distracted driving, impaired driving, and other dangerous behaviors put everyone at risk.

But sometimes, a traffic stop uncovers much more.

Recently, CHP - Oceanside officers have confiscated several illegal fi****ms during traffic stops and enforcement contacts. These stops have resulted in illegally possessed and unlawfully configured fi****ms being taken off our streets and out of the hands of individuals prohibited from possessing them.

Traffic enforcement remains one of the many tools our officers use to protect the communities we serve. A stop for a traffic violation can ultimately lead to the discovery of illegal weapons, drugs, wanted individuals, or other criminal activity.

Drive safely. Follow the law. And if you see suspicious or dangerous activity on our roadways, report it. For emergencies or an immediate threat, call 9-1-1.

Speeding Led to a Ride to Jail🚔

Officer Brown was on patrol when an orange coupe passed him at a dangerously high speed. He stopped the vehicle, arrested the driver for reckless driving, and also towed the vehicle.

Excessive speed reduces your ability to react to changing traffic conditions, increases stopping distance, and can turn a split-second mistake into a deadly crash.

Your destination is not going anywhere. Slow down, drive responsibly, and get there safely.

Fish and CHiP's

Recently, CHP - Baldwin Park officers responded to a rather unusual traffic hazard involving several fish across the lanes. Upon arrival, officers located 31 catfish making their way across the roadway.

Officers quickly sprang into action, safely moving all 31 fish to the right shoulder. With the assistance of Animal Control, we're happy to report that 29 of the 31 catfish survived and were safely relocated.

Remember: If you see something unusual in the roadway, slow down, move over when safe, and contact emergency services.
