When fire tore through North Union Apartments in Midvale on July 31, more than 200 residents lost their homes overnight 🏠 Within 24 hours, 211 Utah's Salt Lake team was already on the ground, and thanks to a partnership with Airbnb.org, more than 81 families found a safe place to stay while they figured out what came next.

Our team spent four days onsite at the shelter helping people with everything from lost documents to pet resources to just having someone to talk to, and that support hasn't stopped. 211 Utah is still walking alongside these families as they work toward permanent housing 💛

This is what showing up for your neighbors looks like, and it's only possible because of you. Homeownership. Not the first thing you'd think of when you think of United Way of Salt Lake, but it's real, and it's happening 🏠

Through the Utah Dream Fund, families get help clearing the barriers that usually keep a first home out of reach, down payments, confusing paperwork, rising prices. So far, 20 Utah families have become homeowners because of it, including five right here in South Salt Lake and Millcreek 💛

Over the weekend, more than 200 residents in Midvale lost their homes to a fire none of them saw coming 💔

Together with Airbnb.org, we've already helped more than 40 of those residents access free temporary housing this weekend, with our 211 Utah team on the ground at Union Middle School continuing that work today and tomorrow.

If you're wondering how to help, here's the most useful thing you can do right now: many residents lost everyday essentials, and some won't know exactly what's recoverable until they're allowed back into the building later this week. Clean clothing and household items are needed most.

Back-to-school looks different for every family in Salt Lake County 🎒

For some kids, the first day means new shoes and a backpack full of supplies. For others, it means walking through the door with whatever they have, hoping it's enough.

That gap is real. It's measurable. And it matters more than most people realize, because how a kid shows up on day one shapes how they feel about school from that point forward.

That's why campaigns like Stuff the Bus exist. Not as charity, as infrastructure. A community deciding together that every kid deserves to start on equal footing 💛
