Struggling to make friends at the start of the semester? You’re not alone—so many students feel the same way. Meeting new people can feel awkward when you're worried about what to say or how to act.

Here are a few small steps to make things easier:
1) Start small: Introduce yourself to someone in your class.
2) Join a club or event: Shared interests make it easier to connect.
3) Give yourself time: Friendships don’t happen overnight.

Want to step up your social game? Try these:

Conversation skills: Ask open-ended questions and follow up on what people say to keep the convo going.

Nonverbal cues: Make eye contact, smile, and keep your body language open to seem more approachable.

And remember, it’s totally normal to feel lonely while finding your people. If it feels like too much, we’re here to help. 💙

Depression isn’t just about feeling sad. It can show up in many ways, like feeling tired all the time, losing interest in things you once enjoyed, or isolating yourself.

Depression can feel like a cycle: feeling low leads to doing less, and the less you do, the harder it is to feel better. But even small steps—like moving your body, talking to someone, or challenging a negative thought—can help break the cycle.

And remember, you don’t have to face this alone. We’re here to support you.

Calling all parenting students!

The University Counseling Center is launching a new Parenting Student Support Group this fall and is currently gathering interest from students.

This weekly, in-person group will provide a supportive space to connect with other parenting students, share experiences, and build community. In partnership with the Parent Student Support Center, drop-in childcare will be available during the group to help make participation more accessible.

Meeting day and time will be determined based on student interest, so we’d love to hear from you!

This time of year, it can feel like our bodies are more visible, and body anxiety might be higher. Your body works so hard for you, and we ask a lot of our bodies! Even if you are experiencing heightened body anxiety, you can still practice treating your body with kindness. You don't need to "fix" anything about your body to enjoy your life in the present moment, today, this week, and this season.
