🔨 From heavy equipment operations to construction, more than 200 San Antonio teens discovered career opportunities they may never have known existed. That's what workforce development looks like in action. 💡

On Sept. 19, Workforce Solutions Alamo proudly partnered with the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Antonio and the Alamo Trades Club to host Trades Discovery Day, giving teens ages 13-18 the opportunity to explore careers in the skilled trades through hands-on learning experiences.

Participants connected with more than 20 local employers and explored career pathways in welding, electrical, HVAC, construction, plumbing, roofing, heavy equipment and more. Events like this help students see what's possible while connecting them to industries that are critical to our region's workforce.

The final countdown is on! 🚨

Your idea could become the first-ever official Workforce Solutions Alamo mascot, but time is running out to enter!

Artists and creatives of all ages across the 13-county Alamo Region are invited to submit an original mascot design inspired by the careers, culture, wildlife, symbols and South Texas roots that make our region unique.

CONTEST RULES:
✅ Open to artists and creatives of all ages
✅ Participants must live in the 13-county Alamo Region

✨ The winning design will become the official Workforce Solutions Alamo mascot and the artist will receive a $500 grand prize.

🚨 Submissions are open until Sept. 30, 2026, at 5 p.m. CT.

Only a few days left to enter your designs! Students K-12 across the 13-county Alamo Region don't miss your final chance to see your original artwork brought to life as our official 2027 Fiesta medal!

Create an original Fiesta medal design inspired by the “Workforce Superhero” theme and show us how everyday heroes use their talents and skills to make our workforce community stronger.

Entry Guidelines:
✅ Open to students in grades K-12
✅ One winner from each division: Elementary, Middle School and High School
✅ Each division winner receives a $250 prize

🏆 One lucky division winner will become the official designer of our 2027 Fiesta Medal and receive an additional $250!

Workforce Solutions Alamo is proud to celebrate one of our 2026 Impact Award winners as she received national recognition in New York City's Times Square.

This past May, Leah and The Mermaid Cafe were honored with Workforce Solutions Alamo's 2026 HireAbility Employer of the Year Award for their commitment to creating meaningful employment opportunities and fostering an inclusive workplace for Texans of all abilities.

Recently, Leah was selected to be celebrated in New York City's Time Square as part of the National Down Syndrome Society's Annual Times Square Video Presentation and New York City Buddy Walk, where she was selected from more than 2,700 submissions worldwide.
