IDEA Public Schools IDEA is a goal-oriented and data-driven family of public charter schools, open to all in grades K–12. News & World Report’s Top High Schools lists.

IDEA Public Schools believes that each and every child can go to college. Since 2000, IDEA Public Schools has grown from a small school with 150 students to a national network of tuition-free, K-12 public charter schools in the United States. Currently, the network serves more than 83,000 college-bound students in 143 schools across Texas, Louisiana, Florida, and Ohio. IDEA has been recognized as a “Great Place to Work” and received national rankings on The Washington Post and U.S. IDEA remains on-track to uphold its legacy of sending 100% of its graduates to college.

🎓 Joshua Arechiga committed to USC before ever setting foot on campus.​

For the IDEA Burke valedictorian and first-generation college student, getting from San Antonio to Los Angeles took years of determination, support and scholarship opportunities that gave him something incredibly important: the opportunity to choose.​

Now, Joshua is beginning his next chapter at USC—and carrying the IDEA community with him more than 1,000 miles from home.​

From arriving at IDEA Burke as a sixth grader struggling with English to graduating as valedictorian without a single college rejection, there’s much more to Joshua’s journey.​

As IDEA’s Senior Regional Vice President of Special Programs, Dr. Wheeler has helped expand opportunities for students with disabilities through IDEA THRIVE, a transition program supporting young adults as they prepare for college, employment and independent adulthood.​

Since 2021, the program has served more than 60 young adults.​
