In August, 2,057 pets found homes through adoption, foster placements, reunions with their families, and support from our rescue partners, helping us achieve an 84.3% live release rate.
We also celebrated a half dozen new Animal Care Officers who completed more than six months of classroom instruction, hands-on field training, and the state-required certification process before receiving their official badges and beginning their service to San Antonioās animals and community.
When storms left thousands of San Antonio residents without power, our community stepped up. As shelter kennels grew warmer, we put out a call for emergency fosters and our residents answered. So did our friends at Dogtopia, who opened their Alamo Ranch gym space to seven ACS dogs, giving them a cool place to stay while power was restored and kept them in their car until the pups found homes!
Our Pet Care Connect team also brought resources directly to District 6, connecting with neighbors and helping make pet care support easier to access. During the outreach, 39 pets were microchipped and registered, 374 resources were distributed, and 70 spay/neuter referrals or appointments were scheduled.
These moments are a reminder that caring for San Antonioās pets takes all of us. Whether you adopt, foster, volunteer, donate, or simply help a neighbor access the resources they need, you can make a difference.
While we celebrate these milestones, many pets are still waiting for homes. If youāve been thinking about fostering, adopting, or volunteering, thereās no better time to get involved. Spay, neuter, microchip, and keep pets safely contained to help reduce shelter intake and build a brighter future for San Antonioās pets and the people who love them.
