A Foundational Leadership Skills Training Program (FLSTP) graduation ceremony was held at the Audie L. Murphy Memorial Veterans Hospital on Sept. 16. This ceremony featured the presentation of certificates to 13 of the program’s 21 students, all VA employees who were able to attend in person. The FLSTP is a South Texas Veterans Health Care System development initiative designed to help attendees recognize concepts associated with effective leadership and management.

Several hospital services facilitated sessions on important topics, including servant leadership, human resources, fiscal services, supply chain management, the employee master agreement, performance plans and more. Seminars were held over five consecutive Wednesdays beginning in August. Congratulations to the most recent graduates!

The annual Healthcare Simulation Week runs Sept. 14–19, and the Audie L. Murphy Memorial Veterans Hospital’s (ALMMVH) Simulation Education Department kicked off the celebration, Sept 14, with a showcase outside the Veterans Canteen Service. Veterans and healthcare staff met Ares, one of the department’s six high fidelity manikins, played trivia for prizes, and refreshed their first aid skills.

On Thursday, the department will host an open house inside the 2,000 square foot ALMMVH Simulation Center in Room D 304.3 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. On Friday, the simulation team will trek through the hospital and serve actual—not simulated—ice cream.

Recognize the warning signs when a Veteran may be at risk of su***de.

IF YOU’RE WORRIED ABOUT A VETERAN
Ask directly. Listen without judgment. Stay connected. Help them find support.

You can say:
“I’m glad you told me. You don’t have to go through this alone. Let’s get you some support.”

If someone is in immediate danger, stay with them and help connect them with emergency or crisis support.

As we pause today to remember September 11, we honor the lives lost and the families, first responders, service members, Veterans, and communities forever changed by that day. Dozens of South Texas VA employees joined Chaplain Tracy Barnett at the Audie L. Murphy Memorial Veterans Hospital flag poles and monument today at noon for a memorial service.
